Where does my anxiety come from? Where did something this frightening get its start? How has it had such control over my mind? If I could just get some understanding as to its causes, maybe I could start to get a han-dle on how it is affecting me mentally, physically, & spiritually.
Important Distinction:
Anxiety is not a A_______________________, but a B_______________________________! There’s something deeper inside you that is causing the anxiety, the restless nights, the confused mind, the shakiness your body is feeling. It’s important in finding “answers” to anxiety that we consider where these emotions came from, in other words, the “avenues” they traveled to get to your mind & body. Here are five to consider:
First, The Avenue of C___________________________ For most of us, this is the BIG ONE! We have so many fears & they are crippling to us. What are the top 5 fears? Top 10? What are yours? Let’s start with these:
• D
• E
• F
• G
• H
And the list of fears seems endless as well – we could add any of the following & more: poverty or the lack of money, public speaking (I know this one very well), germs, closed in spaces or open spaces, snakes, spiders, the dark, the dentist; heights; needles; & yes, even clowns! Avenues for Anxiety Series: ANSWERS
The Bible mentions at least 365 times these two words: ”I________________________________” (or, “Do not be afraid!”). A “Fear Not” for every day of the year! Thank you, God!
Second, The Avenue of J________________________________ People can be so aggravating, pushy, hard to get along with, opinionated, judgmental, irritating, hard to please, difficult to communicate with, etc. As Jesus tells us over & over – we are “love one another”; we are to “love our enemies” & we are to “love our neigh-bors.” This is an area of growth we need. Remember the apostles’ request to Jesus to “Increase our faith?” This was in the context of dealing with difficult people who sin against us. We need a lot of love & faith!
Third, The Avenue of K______________________________ Even more devastating than difficult people is to feel you have no one in your life. Who is your “go-to” person? Proverbs 12:25, 17:17, 18:24, 31:10; John 15:12f
Fourth, The Avenue of L_________________________ This is the path of unfulfilled dreams of how life would be for you – who you would be, who you would have in your life, & the accomplishments you had desired. Anx-iety also comes from not living up to the expectations of others – your spouse, your boss, & even the expecta-tions of the Lord Jesus Christ. It’s that fear of failure that brings us angst, unhappiness, & disappointments.
Fifth, The Avenue of M_______________ This covers a multitude of avenues in which the sins of not only fear, but doubt, guilt, greed, self indulgence, pride, lust, & all forms of disobedience to the will of God. All these & more have the power to destroy your life, to distort your thinking, to mis-direct your steps, & ultimately con-demn your soul. It is our own sins that are the cause of most anxieties. How many times did Jesus have to say to his disciples, “O You of Little Faith!?” Never underestimate N _____________ power & control over your life.
Note carefully. Anxiety in itself is O_________________! It is a P_______________ response to the uncertainty we face in the situations that play out before us in everyday life. Peak Passage of the Week 1 Peter 5:7

Take time this week to do a self-assessment as to where your anxieties are coming from. Take
the following five mentioned in the message and write out:
1) Some personal observations as well as
2) Some positive steps you could take to make this “avenue” less of a threat to your peace of
mind.
1. The Avenue of Fear
2. The Avenue of People
3. The Avenue of Loneliness
4. The Avenue of Expectations
5. The Avenue of Sin

Paul Harvey 90 years old, gone, but will be best remembered for THE REST OF THE STORY. His different view of the news kept us laughing & brought us smiles when least expected. He advertised various products & sold PAUL HARVEY INSURANCE (I had a policy for awhile.) For nearly fifty years he researched & wrote his scripts for his nationwide radio show.
"When television arrived in a small western Kansas town it became the darling of the couple, Burl & Maude Sullivan, On Fridays nights at 8 o'clock it was time to pull the shades & disconnect the telephone & lock the doors & any other thing that might cause a disruption of their favorite show, wrestling. Ask Maude or Burl about live wrestling & they would tell you all the moves & names of all the wrestlers; never mentioning there could be the slightest hint of Hollywood involved. When it was over, off went the set & they would unroll the mats & go at it. Maude won most of the time with her lightening leg locks catching Burl off guard & then it was over until the next Friday night-when two of Kansas's lovers of the fine art of wrestling would again follow their favorite sport. Maude is 76 & Burl is 83."
You wore a gown of pink with the matching shoes. "No, it was shorts & a mini top with your old golf shoes." Oh yes, I remember it well. It was the quick toss & rollover that caught my eye. "No, it was the Russian knee lock & the Bear hug." Oh yes I remember so well. I lost a comb. "NO! you lost your
teeth." Oh Yes I remember well! We dined alone & heard the birds sing! "NO, we had hot dogs & watched the test pattern." Oh Yes I do remember it well! How often I think of all those Wednesdays nights when I took an early nap. "No, it was Friday & you dozed off after the Sleeper hold applied with the Spider Twist." Oh, yes, I remember it all now so well!( fractured the lyrics from GIGI)
How many times have you heard your friends say they wrestled with a problem & lost sleep? The dictionary defines "wrestle" to struggle hand to hand with an opponent in an attempt to throw or force the opponent to the ground without striking a blow. We have to apply great strength & grapple with the problem until it is forced into a position where we gain & keep control. Today you can find the names of 150 holds & at least 250 wrestlers using stage names.
Wrestling has been around since Greek & Roman times. Note this from the Bible:
Genesis 32:24-30 NKJV Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. 25Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob's hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. 26And He said, "Let Me go, for the day breaks." But he said, "I will not let You go unless You bless me!" 27So He said to him, "What is your name?" He said, "Jacob." 28And He said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have pre-vailed."

A Life of Integrity
PSALM 15:1-5
Integrity is the practice of being honest & showing a consistent & uncompromising
adherence to strong moral & ethical principles & values. ... The word integrity evolved
from the Latin adjective integer, meaning whole or complete.
DAVID’S PSALMS OFTEN DESCRIBE the life of integrity believers should have. Today’s
passage shows us that God values our righteousness & honesty. To develop & maintain a life-
style that pleases Him, we must …
FORMULATE OUR BELIEFS ON THE BASIS OF SCRIPTURE. The Bible explains our need for
a Savior, Christ’s death for our sin, & the Father’s free gift of eternal life. Once we believe
these foundational Christian truths, our priorities should flow from our position as God’s
adopted children.
SUBMIT TO CHRIST’S LORDSHIP. Jesus tells to deny ourselves & follow Him (Mark 8:34).
Commitment to the Savior will help us stand against temptation & choose
righteousness.
BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WITH INDIVIDUALS WHO VALUE GODLY LIVING. The influence of
other Christians strengthens us in our dedication & obedience to the Lord.
ACKNOWLEDGE MISSTEPS. Everyone makes mistakes. But when we do, we should
confess our sin to God & turn away from the wrong behavior (1 John 1:9).
Living a life of integrity isn’t always easy. But our Father, who understands our struggles,
sent His Spirit to guide us toward godliness. Let’s ask Him to help us become more like
the person described in Psalm 15.
