The Cracked Acorn
Trash June 4, 2017
c.r. van arsdall
"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out & trampled underfoot by men. Matthew 5:13
THIS IS NOT TRASH, PLEASE HOLD. When I first saw this well done sign on a surplus telephone kiosk at work, it was amusing. But with each passing day when I went to lunch at the cafeteria, I thought this sign may have a deeper connotation, maybe like an auto bumper sticker, THIS CAR IS NOT TRASH, DON'T CALL THE JUNKYARD. The dictionary was not much help on the word "trash." The modern definition is that which is discarded & thrown away, to be hidden from sight. A very large unabridged volume suggested that the origin may once have meant "broken twigs." In ancient times, the king would allow the peasants to enter his forests & gather fallen twigs to be used as fuel in their homes, a way of surviving the winters, go beyond the regal order & the penalty was severe.
Our trash today goes far beyond tree refuse, we have managed to have “discard-able” wastes from our factories, homes & shopping centers. The cost is rising each year to hid & bury, burn & keep the contaminates away from our families. We dare not hold or touch trash, it could have AIDS or untreatable bacteria.
But trash is how you view it, to some it means jobs & the growth of small companies to handle the millions of tons of this solid waste that continues to grow every year. Fortunately, ways are being used to recycle & convert some of this into paper & plastics.
GOD DOES NOT CREATE TRASH - a familiar statement that is used by the ultra liberals when they wish to push their
agendas through the Supreme Court of our land. The underlying motivation is really an assault on the Scriptures-that those who strictly follow the Word of God are using I Corinthians 6:9-10 to label & cast judgement & hold back groups who need the ever-flowing love of God. These two verses do have an enumerated list of the ungodly & in the third verse it says they must be "washed", they must repent. The Scriptures never "trashed" any one or any group but is very plain those who pursue their own needs will not inherit the kingdom of God, a dark side for the ultra liberals but a bright & shining side for those who choose to love the Lord & obey His commands. Has any one or group ever surmounted the gift of John 3:16 - that God has given us as a proof of His love, His only Son.
Matthew 5:13
The Bible is the salt for our society, not the decisions of men.
-Great Songs of the Church-
written by Harry D. Clarke, 1924.
INTO MY HEART, into my heart, come into my heart Lord Jesus.
Come in today, come in to stay, Come into my heart Lord Jesus.
(repeat - when needed at work & at leisure)

Romans 6:16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
The above passage seems to be a great source of angst for so many people struggling with the word of God. Some version have attempted to down play the servant aspect by changing the word slave to a more palatable one.
Still others may take issue with the death or righteousness issue. It is not commonly poplar concept. Our world seems much more comfortable with the “accept me as I am” principal.
But perhaps the most troubling word in the passage is the “Big O”. Of course I refer to the word Obedience. It would seems society today can not grasp and or accept obedience to anything. Our world is in the turmoil it is today due to our lack of acceptance of obedience as a concept to be embraced.
Yet the real irony is made obvious by the above passage. We are indeed in a state of obedience. We are either obey Satan or God and will reap the rewards which follow our guide in this life.
Separation from the Creator or relationship with God. Obedience is the key.
