I got an email saying I’ve won! What happens next?

Nothing!

The Department of State never sends emails telling people they’ve won the DV Program

Unfortunately, it appears you are a victim of a scam. Do not send any money!

If I entered the DV-2016 lottery

Have will I know if I have won?

If you registered at www.dvlottery.state.gov between October 1 & November 3, 2014, you can find out the

status of your application by going to that website from May 5, 2015 onwards

There is no other way to find out!

Look out for the warning signs that you are the victim of a scam:

You’ve received notification by email or letter

You’ve been asked to pay money before you can proceed

and

Remember, if you did not register, you cannot have been selected!

Can I still enter

DV-2016?

No. Entries closed on November 3, 2014

Beware of anyone who says you can still enter!

The next opportunity you will have to register for the DV Program is Fall of 2015 when DV-2017 will be announced
