1/2
In the Name of Allh, the Most Gracious, the Most
Merciful
Introduction
All praises belong to Allah. May the prayer, the peace, and the blessing be upon His Slave and Messenger our
Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions. To
proceed: From the mercy of Allah upon His servants, His
kindness to them, and His benevolence upon them is that
He sent a Messenger for them from among themselves; in
order to convey to them His Lords message, to guide
them to all that is beneficial for them, and to warn them
from all that is harmful for them. Indeed, the hesallallahu
alayhe wa sallam carried out what he was sent with
perfectly and completely. He directed his nation to every
good, warned it from every evil, and he advised
extensively. Indeed, Allah chose a people for hiscompanionship and receiving of the legislation from him
whom were the best of this nation, which is the best of all
nations. Thus, He honored them with the companionship
of His Prophet sallallahu alayhe wa sallam and favored
them by the looking at him in this worldly life, listeningto his narrations from his honorable mouth, and this is
from the bounty of Allah, which He gives to whom He
wills, and Allah is the possessor of great bounty.
Evidences from the Quraan and Sunnah on the Virtue
of the Companions and Their Great Status
Indeed, the companions conveyed from the Messenger of
Allah sallallahu alayhe wa sallam what Allah sent him
with from the light and guidance upon the most complete
and perfect arrangement. Thus, there is for them the great
reward, for their companionship of the Messenger Allahsallallahu alayhe wa sallam, their jihaad (struggle) with
him in the way of Allah, their great deeds in the spread of
Islam, and for them is the same rewards of those after
them because they are the intermediary between them and
the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhe wa sallam.
Since, the one who calls to the guidance for him is thereward similar to the reward of those who followed him
that does not reduce their (Performers) rewards in
anything, as that is established from the Messenger of
Allah sallallahu alayhe wa sallam in the hadith, which
Imam Muslim related in his authentic hadith book.
Certainly, Allah has praised them in His Precious Book,
the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhe wa sallam
praised them in his pure sunnah, and he perceived that
about them in admiration and honor. He, the Most High,
said, And the foremost to embrace Islam of the
Muhajirun and the Ansar and also those who followed
them exactly (in Faith). Allah is well pleased with them as
they are well pleased with Him. He has prepared for them
Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell
therein forever. That is the supreme success (9:100).
And He, the Most High, said, Muhammad is the
Messenger of Allah. And those who are with him are
severe against disbelievers, and merciful among
themselves. You see them bowing and falling down
prostrate (in prayer), seeking bounty from Allah and (His)
Good Pleasure. The mark of them (of their Faith) is on
their faces (foreheads) from the traces of prostration
(during prayers). This is their description in the Taurat
(Torah). But their description in the Injil is like a (sown)
seed, which sends forth its shoot, then makes it strong,
and becomes thick and it stands straight on its stem,
delighting the sowers, that He may enrage the
disbelievers with them. Allah has promised those among
them who believe and do righteous good deeds,
forgiveness and a mighty reward (Paradise) (48:29).
And in His saying, That He may enrage the disbelievers
with them regarding the honorable companions radi
Allahu anhum is a dangerous decree, brutal threat, and
severe warning for one who is angry with the companions
of the Messenger of Allahsallallahu alayhe wa sallam orthere is rancor in his heart against them.
Also, Allah said, And those who came after them say: Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have
preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred
against those who have believed. Our Lord! You areindeed full of kindness, Most Merciful (59:10).
Therefore, Aysha radi Allahu anha said to Urwah bin Az-
Zubayr about the affair of some of these deserted ones,
They were ordered to seek forgiveness for the
companions of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhe
wa sallam but they curse them (Sahih Muslim).
Additionally, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhe
wa sallam said, Do not curse my companions, do not
curse my companions, for by Him in Whose Hand my soul
is even if one of you spent mountain Uhud amount of gold
(in the way of Allah), it would not equal to (in reward)with the handful of one of them nor even half of it (Sahih
Muslim).
All of the Companions are Equal
The companions of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu
alayhe w sallam are all just according to the regulation of
Allah, the Most High, for them and praise of His
Messengersallallahu alayhe wa sallam for them. ImamAn-Nawawee said in the Taqreeb, which Imam As-
Suyutee explained in the Tadreb Raawee, All of the
companions are equal, whoever mixed with the trial and
other than them with the concession of one who considers
it end.
Imam Al-Hafith Ibn Hajr said in Al-Ishaabah, Ahlsus
Sunnah agreed that All (the Companions) are equal, and
no one disagreed with that except for the exceptional ones
from the people of innovation end.
Summary of the Creed of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah
About the Companions
The belief of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah regarding them
is moderate between the two extremists, the excessiveness
and the negligence. It is moderate amongst the excessiveextremists who rise whomever they glorify from amongst
them to that which does not fit expect to Allah or His
Messengersallallahu alayhe wa sallam. Additionally, it is
moderate amongst negligent extremists who disparage
them and curse them. They are moderate between the
harshness and negligence. They love all the companionsradi Allahu anhum and give them their due status, which
they deserve by justice and fairness. They do not raise
them to that which does not suit them nor do they take
away from them what befits them. Their tongue is moist
with their good remembrance and their heart is filled by
the love of them.
And whats authentic regarding what took place amongst
them, they are Mujtahed (Striving to reach correct
position) in that. They are either correct, then for them are
the reward of being correct and the Ijtihaad (Striving) or
they are incorrect, then for them is the reward of Ijtihaadand their mistake is forgiven. They are not infallible but
human beings could be correct and incorrect. However,
how great are their correctness compared to the
correctness of other than them, and how few are their
error compared to the error of other than them, and there
is for them forgiveness and pleasure from Allah. Thebooks of people of sunnah are filled with this pure creed
regarding these chosen elites from the mankind for the

companionship of the best of mankind sallallahu alayhe
wa sallam and may Allah be pleased with them all.
From the Statements of the Imams of Salaf About the
Companions
Shaykh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said in his Aqeedatul
Wasatiyyah: From the principle of Ahlus Sunnah wal
Jamaah is the integrity of the heart and the tongue about
the Companions of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu
alayhe wa sallam as Allah has described them in His
saying: And those who came after them say:Our Lord!
Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in
Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those
who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of
kindness, Most Merciful (59:10).
And in obedience to the saying of the Prophet sallallahualayhe wa sallam: Do not curse my companions, do not
curse my companions, for by Him in Whose Hand my soul
is even if one of you spent mountain Uhud amount of gold
(in the way of Allah), it would not equal to (in reward)
with the handful of one of them nor even half of it (SahihMuslim).
Also, they accept what came in the Book (of Allah), the
Sunnah, and the Concession (of the Scholars) regarding
their virtues, their levels, and they prefer those who spent
before the Victory and it is the treaty of Hudaybiyah and fought. They prefer the Muhajerun (Immigrants) over
the Ansar (The Helpers of Madinah), and they believe that
Allah said about the people of Badr and they were three
hundreds and few tens men -: Do what you wish for I
indeed forgave you. Additionally, they believe that no
one who took the pledge under the tree will enter theHellfire as the Prophet sallallahu alayhe wa sallam
informed them.
The Defamation of the Companions is the Defamation
of Quraan and Sunnah
It is necessary to call attention to that the defamation of
these chosen elites radi Allahu anhum is a defamation of
the deen. Thats because it did not reach those after them
except by way of them. It preceded in the statement of
Abee Jurah, his saying: Indeed! This Quraan and Sunnah
were only brought to us by the companions of theMessenger of Allahsallallahu alayhe wa sallam and they
only want to hurt our witnesses to falsify the Book and
the Sunnah, but the hurt to them is more suitable. They
are the heretics, meaning those who disparage anyone
from the companions radi Allahu anhum.
The Defamation of the Companions Does Not Harm
Them
Indeed! The defamation of the companions does not hurt
them at all. In fact, it benefits them as in the hadith of the
foremost bankrupt, and the defamer does not harm anyone
but himself. Therefore, whoever finds in his heart love for
them (The companions), safe from the rancor against
them, and his tongue is preserved from the opposition to
them except in good, then he should praise Allah for this
blessing, and ask Allah for steadfastness upon this
guidance. And whoever finds rancor in his heart for them,
and his tongue unlashes what does not suit them by
recalling them, then he should fear Allah for himself, pullaway from these crimes, and he should repent to Allah so
long the door repentance is open in front of him before he
regrets when the regret wont benefit him.
Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth)after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You.
Truly, You are the Bestower. (3:8). Our Lord! Forgive
us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and
put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have
believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most
Merciful (59:10).
