“CALÇOTS” and “CALÇOTADES”

Some information about “CALÇOTS”

• Calçots are like long sweet onions. They are typical in Catalonia more concretely from a little village called Valls.

• Calçots are between 15 or 20 cm (the white part).

• How to cook the “Calçots”? – Clean them (cut out a little of green part and the top of the

white part)– Make a big fire.– Put the “Calçots” on a metal rail so they don’t get burned.– When the skin is burned they are ready to eat.

• You dip Calçots in the Romesco Sauce.

What is a Calçotada?

• A “Calçotada” is a traditional Catalan meal. You can do a Calçotada with friends, family, etc…

• This meal is normally accompanied with grilled lamb, pork sausages, etc.

• Wine and Cava are the typical drink for these meals.

• It is celebrated from January to March, approximately. The time of “Calçots grow up”

Romesco sause

Ingredients:

• 1 tomato• 2 slices of garlic• 1 handful of toasted hazelnuts• 1 or 2 chilli peppers• 1 handful of toasted almonds• 1 Slice of bread• A little bit of water• A little bit of vinegar• Olive Oil• Salt

Tools

• Pot

• A glass

• A Mixer

Elavoration

• Put in the pot:• The red peppers• The toasted hazelnuts and almonds.• A piece of the chilli pepper• And the peeled and pieced tomato.

• Toast the slice of bread in a pan with a little bit of olive oil. Add the slice of bread in the pot.

• Beat all the ingredients of the pot. Add a little of water, oil, vinegar and salt.
