The Bird Dog Foundation
The most important time of each year here at the National Bird Dog Museum is the Hall of Fame Inductions
and the National Championship Kick-Off Party, which mark the commencement of the National
Championship Field Trials held at the Ames Plantation and are held each February. This year the Hall of
Fame inductions were held on February 9. The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to honor the individuals, past
and present, both human and canine, that have made significant contributions to the field trial sport and to
preserve their legacies so that others can remember and be inspired. Inductees into the Hall of Fame are
chosen by their peers and have had positive and lasting impact on those who love the sport. We hold this
event so that others may know and appreciate the efforts of those who have made this sport great.
The weather was very cooperative this year, giving us sunshine and temperatures in the upper forties. The
turnout this year was the biggest we have ever seen for the event, with around 400 people attending. The
morning session of the inductions consisted of the English Cocker Spaniels presided over by Bethann Wiley,
the English Springer Spaniels presided over by Steve Beyer, and the Retrievers presided over by Mark
Medford. Following the morning inductions, a luncheon was held, sponsored by Purina, Garmin, Ainley
Kennels & Fabrication, and Avery. The afternoon session of inductions consisted of the Brittanys presided
over by Rick Smith, the Pointer/Setters presided over by Bernie Matthys, the German Shorthaired Pointers
presided over by Peter Kainz, the Red Setters presided over by Deb and Allen Fazenbaker, and new to the
Hall of Fame this year, the Weimaraners presided over by Connie Nowell. Following the conclusion of the
inductions, a reception was held that was sponsored by Me & My Tea Room of Dancyville, Tennessee, and
American Field Publishing Company. The food for both the luncheon and reception was provided by Me & My
Tea Room Catering. We would like to thank Catherine Dean, owner of Me & My Tea Room, and her crew. They
did a fantastic job and the food was amazing. Thank you to all of our sponsors—Purina, Garmin, Ainley
Kennels & Fabrication, Avery, Me & My Tea Room, and American Field Publishing Company—who made this
event possible. Finally, thank you to all who attended and made this event a success. We are glad you shared
in this experience with us.
Please put the National Bird Dog Museum and the Hall of Fame inductions on your bucket list to visit. It will
be an experience you will always remember. The Hall of Fame inductions are always held on the Saturday
prior to the beginning of the National Championship Field Trials, which always begin on the second Monday
of February.
The board and the staff of the National Bird Dog Museum want to congratulate the new Hall of Fame
members. It was a pleasure to have you with us, along with your families and friends. We have made some
new friends this year and I appreciate all the kind words and encouragement that many passed along when
they were here.
