The Biomodeling Process
from 2D to 3D
Who are we?
Biomedical Modeling, Inc. is a Boston-based anatomical engineering company.
We make patient-specific anatomical models
from medical imaging data (CT, MRI, etc.)
for dental, medical, and engineering applications.
We provide virtual & physical biomodels to...
surgeons & dentists
for planning complex procedures,
and biomedical engineers for medical device design and testing.
anaplastologists for making custom implants,
What do we do?
Additive Fabrication Data Segmentation Data Acquisition Problem Definition 3D Modeling(mesh) CAD Modeling (NURBS)
We follow a step by step process starting with problem
definition.
How do we do it?
For patient-specific models we start working from your CT or MRI scans.
If a patient-specific model is not required, we may have suitable data on file in our anatomical library.
Data Acquisition
We segment the relevant anatomy from stacks of scan images.

Image Segmentation

axial
We assemble a 3D model from the segmented images.
Image Segmentation
3D Modeling
We clean up, repair, and revise the model's 3D surface mesh as
needed.
We fabricate physical models via additive manufacturing (3D printing).
BiomodelFabrication
We also process the 3D models further so they are compatible with CAD software for engineering analysis and design.
3D Triangular Mesh

Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS)

This process produces
accurate 3D models of
human anatomy.
3D models allow for
concrete visualization,
a tactile interface, and a
platform for examining
pathological anatomy.
