THE ARGUMENT OF GODDiscovering the Salvation of the Lord

Through The Grace of God

Isaiah 1-2

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple 8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for

Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” 9 And He said, “Go, and tell this people:

Isaiah 6:1, 8-9

THE ARGUMENT OF GOD

1. Look what’s happening to your life v. 1-3

THE ARGUMENT OF GOD

1. Look what’s happening to your life v. 1-31a) You haven’t taken anything to heart

“I have nourished and brought up children, And they have rebelled

against Me;

Isaiah 1:2

The ox knows its owner And the donkey its master’s crib; But Israel does not know, My people do not

consider.”

Isaiah 1:3

Alas, sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children

who are corrupters!

Isaiah 1:4

THE ARGUMENT OF GOD

1. Look what’s happening to your life v. 1-31a) You haven’t taken anything to heart

b) You’re not really into the worship of me

Unless the LORD of hosts Had left to us a very small remnant, We would have become like Sodom, We would have

been made like Gomorrah. 10 Hear the word of the LORD, You rulers of Sodom;

Give ear to the law of our God, You people of Gomorrah:

Isaiah 1:9-10

THE CYCLE OF A NATION1. The age of pioneer.

2. The age of conquests.

3. The age of commerce.

4. The age of affluence.

5. The age of intellect.

6. The age of decadence.

7. The age of decline and collapse.

(vision, passion, simplicity self-rule)

(expansion, development, growth)

(wealth and influence)

(leisure and pleasure)

(self reliance and arrogance)

(tolerance and acceptance)

(greatest amount of rule and law)

Each stage helps the progression to the next as the values of a people change over time. Military, politics, economics and religious developments – these all shape an

empire's citizens to act and believe differently over time.

“To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?” Says the LORD. “I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams And the fat of fed cattle. I do not

delight in the blood of bulls, Or of lambs or goats. …

Isaiah 1:11-15

…12 “When you come to appear before Me, Who has required this from your

hand, To trample My courts? 13 Bring no more futile sacrifices; Incense is an

abomination to Me. The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of…

Isaiah 1:11-15

…assemblies - - I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting. 14 Your New Moons and your appointed feasts My soul hates; They are a trouble to Me, I

am weary of bearing them. 15 When you spread out your hands, I…

Isaiah 1:11-15

…will hide My eyes from you; Even though you make many prayers, I will not

hear. Your hands are full of blood.

Isaiah 1:11-15

He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you

But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?

Micah 6:8

Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD? Why did you swoop down on the

spoil, and do evil in the sight of the LORD?” :20 And Saul said to Samuel, “But I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and gone

on the mission on

1 Samuel 15:19-23

…which the LORD sent me, and brought back Agag king of Amalek; I have utterly

destroyed the Amalekites. 21 But the people took of the plunder, sheep and

oxen, the best of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to…

1 Samuel 15:19-23

…sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal.” :22 So Samuel said: “Has the

LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than

sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of…

1 Samuel 15:19-23

…rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected

the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you from being king.”

1 Samuel 15:19-23

Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His

ear heavy, That it cannot hear. 2 But your iniquities have separated you from your

God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.

Isaiah 59:1-2

This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie

and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light…

1John 1:5-10

…as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the

blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our

sins, He is faithful and just to…

1John 1:5-10

…forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say

that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

1John 1:5-10

“Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil,

17 Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow. …

Isaiah 1:16-23

…18 “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your

sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red

like crimson, They shall be as wool. 19 If you are willing and obedient, …

Isaiah 1:16-23

…You shall eat the good of the land; 20 But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword”; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken. 21 How the

faithful city has become a harlot! It was full of justice; …

Isaiah 1:16-23

…Righteousness lodged in it, But now murderers. 22 Your silver has becomedross, Your wine mixed with water. 23

Your princes are rebellious, Andcompanions of thieves; Everyone loves

bribes, And follows after rewards. They…

Isaiah 1:16-23

…do not defend the fatherless, Nor does the cause of the widow come

before them.

Isaiah 1:16-23

“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like

scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They

shall be as wool.

Isaiah 1:18

When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14 if My people who are called

by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from…

2 Chronicles 7:13-15

…their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and

heal their land. 15 Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer

made in this place.

2 Chronicles 7:13-15

Therefore the Lord says, The LORD of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, “Ah,

I will rid Myself of My adversaries, And take vengeance on My enemies. 25I will turn My hand against you, And

thoroughly purge away your dross, …

Isaiah 1:24-26

…And take away all your alloy. 26 I will restore your judges as at the first, And your counselors as at the beginning.

Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city

Isaiah 1:24-26

Zion shall be redeemed with justice, And her penitents with righteousness. 28 The

For they shall be ashamed of the…

Isaiah 1:27-31

…terebinth trees Which you have desired; And you shall be embarrassed because of the gardens which you have

chosen. 30 For you shall be as a terebinth whose leaf fades, And as a

garden that has no water. 31 The strong shall be as…

quench them.

His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a namewritten on him that no one knows but he

himself. 13 He is dressed in a robedipped in blood, and his name is the Word

of God. 14 The armies of heaven…

will perform this.
