1
Welcome
Educate | Innovate | Network
Organisational resilience alone is insufficient in the digital age. Continuous business model reinvention is necessary not just for future success, but for the very survival of the organisation.
2
Educate | Innovate | Network
This stark message is taken from Airmic’s flagship research paper, Roads to Revolution. These words are not to be taken lightly. We live in a New World driven by a digital revolution in which robotics, data and technology-enabled intelligence are penetrating all aspects of business.
The old solutions are not enough. In this time of great change and opportunity, our approach to risk and insurance must be more ambitious than ever before. We must help boards and the c-suite to be courageous, collaborative and agile, and to turn change into advantage in our New World.
We look forward to welcoming you to the 2019 Airmic Conference in the beautiful setting of Harrogate. Here we will throw the spotlight on the New Solutions for this fast-changing world.
The Airmic Conference is a unique chance for the risk and insurance community to come together to discover, debate and learn. It is our opportunity to help grow the influence of our profession in this age of new technology and globalisation.
We will have the latest thought leadership presentations and reports, unrivalled networking opportunities, 36 educational workshops and many more short talks and discussions to support your continuous professional development.
Together and as individuals, the risk and insurance community must make it our mission to find and implement New Solutions to keep our businesses resilient, sustainable and successful.

Airmic seminars
S - Wednesday 5 June Clock 9.30 - 10.45am
S2:
What does good risk management look like?
Airmic members are hungry for examples of good practice and metrics that can deliver evidence of risk management adding business value. Risk maturity can be a great agent for risk management performance measurement and communication. This session will involve a panel of risk managers and other professionals with UK and international experience sharing their opinions. They will be interviewed under the spotlight – so no pressure! Hear what they have to say and use this seminar to ask questions, challenge and share your experience.
S3:
Debate: Cyber risk management and insurance at a crossroads
As material claims start to flow, the motion for this debate is: “Cyber insurance solutions are passing the fitness test”. A group of senior risk and insurance professionals will debate this motion. Those who attend this seminar will decide whether the motion passes or fails, and contribute to where these solutions should evolve next. Be there to make a difference!

L1. AXA XL Lunch
Business Excellence Programme
AXA XL are proud to be sponsoring Airmic’s Business Excellence Programme for the second year. This will be an informal lunch aimed at new and prospective students, giving the opportunity to discuss the programme with representatives from AXA XL and Airmic as well as hearing from the 2018/2019 cohort on their experience of participating in the programme.
L2. Hacksagon!
Face the threats, secure your business. Chubb’s cyber threat game. Has your business fallen victim to a cyber attack? How would you respond? How would your colleagues respond?
Play Chubb’s bespoke board game at our partner lunch at this year’s Airmic conference. Our unique board game replicates the threats a business would face in the event of a cyber attack. Teams of up to 10 players take on various roles from CEO to intern to debate and strategise on how best to defend their business and learn just how far-reaching (and costly) a cyber attack can be.
25
When we think of a hacker, most of us mentally turn to movies. We’ll conjure up a picture of a young person, in a hoodie, in their late teens or early twenties.
They’ll be motivated by fame, or perhaps some sense of justice, or an anarchic desire to cause mischief – they will rarely be truly evil.
This stereotype is both a little bit right and very wrong. The lone-wolf stereotype is wrong, too. Hackers tend to work in groups, most of them virtual, and there is a strong sense of community. In fact, these gangs are becoming disciplined enough to be considered organised crime – enterprises run by criminals who intend to engage in illegal activity, most commonly for money and profit. ‘Dark Horse’ is one of those organisations.
We’ll present the ‘Dark Horse’ organisation from the attacker’s perspective – looking at its aims and methods in order to help you understand the type of cyber threats you may be facing and what types of precautions you could adopt to mitigate cyber risk.

MENTAL HEALTH. There, we said it. We said it loud and proud.
Everyone experiences mental health challenges at some point during their lifetime, regardless of age, gender and job title. Here at Marsh, we encourage people to talk about it. Be that stress, anxiety, depression or just a bad day, our objective is to challenge preconceptions and eradicate stigma.
“When ‘I’ is replaced with ‘we’, illness becomes wellness.”
Our Chief Executive Officer, Chris Lay, signed the Time to Talk Pledge in 2018, which has since created a wealth of opportunities for Marsh colleagues to educate themselves about mental health and actively be a part of a supportive and promising environment. Marsh is delighted to be joined by Gareth Thomas, who revealed he is gay while working in the macho high-profile world of professional rugby. In this session, he will talk about the impact it had on his mental health.
L4. Mental health and wellbeing in the workplace
26
Chaired by Grant Clemence, Head of Casualty and lead for QBE’s ongoing operational transformation programme.
Continuing QBE’s theme at Airmic of turning data into information, this informal lunch is an opportunity to discuss how the process of exchanging information between insurers and insureds might be simplified and made more efficient to reduce the burden placed on risk managers.
Join Willis Towers Watson and Rushton International for our ‘Women in Business’ networking lunch.
The lunch is open to all delegates, and will give you a chance to network with other like-minded professionals and to hear from an inspirational speaker.
