President’s Message

MotherNatureislettingusknowourextendedsummerisoverandfallishere.Sincethekidshavealreadyheadedbacktoschool,itistimetobreakoutthosewintertools!Wehavehadseveralsuccessfulannualeventsthisyear,includ-ingtheGolfTournament,ShrimpFeast,andtheCampDavidChapterPicnic.TheAssociationalsorecognizedtheWhiteHouseCommunicationsAgency’sAllStarsduringtheAgency’sAnnualAwardCeremony,andsupportedtheWound-edWarriors&FisherHouseprograms.Nowit’stimetocloseouttheyearwithourfinalevent:theAnnualHolidayDinnerDance.

OnSeptember6,2014,manyassociationmembersandtheirfamiliesattendedthe23rdAnnualCampDavidChapterAnnualPicnic,heldatthehomeofWarrenandCarolSukerinCascade,MD.Pleaseseepage5forphotosandarecapofanothergreatevent.

The1600CommunicationsAssociationBoardofDirectorsheldaluncheonSeptember2,2014attheJointBaseAnacostia-BollingClub,Washington,DC.Theprimaryfocusoftheluncheonwastoreconnect,strengthentheAs-sociation,andtosetgoalsforthefuture.Theluncheonprovidedaforumfordialogue,withthegoalofenhancingtheeffectivenessofthefunctionsoftheAssociation.InviteeswerecurrentandformerWHCACommanders,currentandformerWHCACommandSergeantsMajor,former1600AssociationPresidents,andAssociationEventChair-Persons.Thosenotabletoattendexpressedtheirregretsandencouragedthecontinuationoftheseluncheons.

It’snottooearlytostartgettingyourapplicationssubmittedforthe1600As-sociationScholarshipProgramfor2015.AllapplicationsmustbepostmarkednolaterthanMay31,2015,butgettingyourapplicationinearlyisencouraged.Lastyear,weawarded$8,000amongthreewinners.AdditionalinformationappearsonPage2ofthisnewsletter.

Onbehalfofthe1600CommunicationsAssociation,Iwouldliketoinviteyoutoour46thAnnualHolidayDinnerDance.TheDinnerDanceisalwaysaveryspecialoccasionandawonderfulopportunitytoseeoldfriends,aswellastomakenewones.ManyAssociationmemberslookforwardtothiseventtocel-ebratetheiraccomplishmentsandcloseouttheyearwithformerandcurrentmembersofWHCA.TheDinnerDancewillbeheldonDecember6,2014attheSpatesCommunityClub,locatedat214McNairRoad(Bldg.407)FortMyer,Virginia22211.Theeveningwillbeginwithcocktailsat6:30pmfollowedbydinner,theofficialpro-gram,anddancingintothenight.Theinvitationisincludedinthisnewsletter.Wearelookingforwardtoseeingyouthere!

Camp David Chapter Picnic

OnSeptember6,2014,manyAssociationmembersandtheirfamiliesattendedthe23rdAnnualCampDavidChapterAnnualPicnic,heldatthehomeofWarrenandCarolSukerinCascade,Md.Thisyear’sweatherfore-cast,whichonceagainprovedcorrect,keptafewfolksaway.Luckily,therewerenotornadoesthisyear.Theturnoutwaslowerthanexpected,butitdidnotstoppeoplefromhavingagreatevent!Attendeesenjoyedsharingseveralfunandinterestingfactsduringtheirtimetogether.TwospecialguestsincludedthewinneroftheRonaldThompsonScholarshipAward,AnjoliRoweandherfather,Larry.Asashowofgratitude,Anjolipresentedathankyoucardtothe1600CommunicationsAssociation.Attendeesparticipatedinticketdraw-ingsandreceivedseveralprizes.Overall,everyoneenjoyedadayofgreatfood,fellowship,andreconnecting.ManythanksgoouttoWarrenandCarolforbeingexcellenthosts.Markyourcalendarsfornextyear,2015astheSukersonceagainhosttheAnnualCampChapterAnnualPicnic!ThanksgooutalsototheWHCAandCampDavidstoresforprovidinggreatkeepsakesforsale.
