Dear Parents and Community Members
Visit to St Joseph’s
Despite the wind and rain, our visit to St Joseph’s was fantastic. Children participated in Maths rotational
activities based on the four operations. However, our primary purpose for the visit – that of socialising and
meeting other children – was very successful and many new friends were made.
Thank you to all the St Joseph’s staff and children for making us feel so welcome. St Joseph’s will be
visiting us in third term and the day will be literacy based.

Moorine Rock Primary School continues
1954 Teacher Mr P Connell with 17 students The senior girls begin a project to commemorate the visit of the queen. School newspaper begins Connell advises he is getting married and would like to tenant the railway house which could become vacant when the pumper transfers as a result of dieselisation. However Railways decline to rent out the house and Connell is transferred. Lionel Kelly MLA asks for married quarters to be provided for a teacher but advised that the government is against providing accommodation and would prefer to bus the children to Southern Cross, The plan had to be abandoned 12 months ago because of opposition from parents but at some future date consideration will be effected. While the school remains, it will be staffed with single teachers. P&C committee, led by Arthur Dowdall offered to build a 2 roomed cottage on school land for the teacher. Offer refused as the Education Department was expected to pay back the estimated cost of £550.. Hugh Leslie MLA presses for a school house but advised no funds are available and it is planned to send single staff to Moorine until such time as parents agree to close the school.
1955 Teacher Mr P Connell with 18 students. Children attend a school camp at Point Peron. Several children suffer from Trachoma.
