Some easy to follow rules.

• Have I heard of the publisher before?

• Is this the source I think it is, or does it

sound a bit like them?

• Can I point to where this happened on a

map?

• Has this been reported anywhere else?

• Is there more than one piece of evidence

for this claim?

• Could this be something else?

Religious Festivals this Week

26th September– Durga Puja (Hinduism)

In Nepal, Bangladesh and (in India) West Bengal and other north eastern areas, Durga Puja is the biggest annual festival and lasts several

days. In Kolkota hundreds of pandals (decorated temporary shrines) are put up. The Goddess’s slaying of the demon, Mahishasura, is

celebrated, and in Nepal the celebration involves animal sacrifices. The festival ends with the immersion of figures of Durga in rivers and

sea.

30th September – Yom Kippur (Judaism)

This is the final day of the ten days of repentance, and is the holiest day of the year in the Jewish calendar. The Bible calls it the ‘Sabbath of

Sabbaths’, and it is marked by ‘afflicting the soul’ – expressed through a total fast lasting 25 hours.

Summary:

•Discussion of the definition

•Discussion of how to identify what is fake news and

how to report it.
