CHRISTMASChristmas is the perfect time to make use of the busy holiday season and pick

up temp work for some hard-earned extra income. But where do you go?

The following roles are your typical best choices in the festive season:

BAR WORKEROften people opt for bar work for the tips but

the experience it provides is crucial for other

The atmosphere is often really enjoyable

at this time of year.

If you like pressure, this role is for you.

same bar or other pubs.

Work involves packing products efficiently

for delivery.

Hours vary depending on demand, but could

be up to 42 hours/week.

Amazon is a big recruiter - managing 35orders a second.

CHANCE OF PERMANENT WORK;

LOW - But there are other peak seasons and times where employers may

look to you again for temp work.

the staff they can get to keep on top of it all!

Jobs can vary from smaller production

line type work to experienced machinery

operatives (e.g. forklift operatives).

Positions vary from large national firms

to smaller local warehouses.

Last year, Amazon recruited over 13,000

temp staff for its Swansea warehouse.

CHANCE OF PERMANENT WORK;

but some roles can be on-going.

WHAT TO EXPECT

7.00- 7.20per hour*

COURIER DRIVERDeliveries for customers and business alike are

essential over the festive season, so more staff

Work can be for small local deliveries for

less experience.

HGV work is also available for larger B2B

deliveries.

Available work depends on training /

experience.

MID - People are employed over busy periods, but often temp roles are

on-going based on demand.

7.50- 8.50per hour*

POSTAL WORKERChristmas brings an enormous spike in people

using postal services for cards, letters and parcels,

so it’s a prime time for grabbing temp work!

Companies prep for this every year - temp

vacancies regularly available.

Royal Mail is a big recruiter - 19,000 extra

staff for Christmas alone.

Deliveries tend to be earlier starting shifts;

distribution could offer late or night shifts.

CHANCE OF PERMANENT WORK;

MED - Postal companies usually just recruit for short-term temp contracts but there

can be opportunities to gain experience.

WHAT TO EXPECT

SANTA CLAUSIt’s not just retail where the opportunities lie - helping

shopping centres create a Christmas atmosphere opens

up temp jobs for everything from Santas to elves.

A great opportunity for seasonal work

dealing with the public.

Relatively secure; working for one store or

shopping centre.

Some consider it a career; there are ‘Santa

schools’ and specialist recruitment agencies!

CHANCE OF PERMANENT WORK;

LOW - Unless you get hired next year!

WHAT TO EXPECTPAY TENDS TO BE MINIMUM WAGE BUT CAN BE MORE DEPENDING ON LOCATION AND EXPERIENCE.

Key skills such as IT and organisation come

into fruition within an Admin role.

Working within an environment which is

calmer than other seasonal roles.

Hours are a little more social, often being9 am - 17.30pm.

CHANCE OF PERMANENT WORK;

experienced worked may be able to be kept on for longer.

temporary work in an office is it provides invaluable

experience, which goes far on a CV.
