From the Principal’s desk
Staff and students were honoured to have the Mayor of
Temora, Councillor Rick Firman spend the day at Temora
Public School on Wednesday.
Councillor Firman presented certificates to the Times Tables
Champions and a photography award to Kate Harper. Kate’s
photo of English elm trees was highly commended in the
primary section of the Regional Primary Industries
Photography Competition. Congratulations Kate.
The Mayor reminisced fondly about his days in primary school
and was able to recall the names of all his classes and
teachers. He told students that when he was in Kindergarten,
he and a friend became locked in the storeroom for half a day.
Emergency services were called to get them out!! Councillor
Firman explained that he spent a considerable amount of time
at T.P.S. standing in the corner as he talked too much! Maybe
he was practising for his future leadership role.
We certainly kept our Mayor busy with classroom visits, the
Visions of Temora presentation at the Town Hall, observation
of the Minilit program and participation in the Stage 3 sports
afternoon at T.H.S. It was wonderful to see how enthusiastic
the children were to ask questions and engage with Councillor
Firman. We were delighted that he dedicated a full day to
spend time at his old primary school.
Parents are advised that in 2015, there will be two school
development days at the beginning of the year. These days
will be Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th January. Students
in Years 1 to 6 will return on Thursday 29th January and
Kindergarten will start school on Monday 2nd February. Staff
from five local public schools will combine for a day of
professional learning. This extra development will take the
place of the one scheduled for the end of term 4, 2015.
This week we welcomed Miss Carly Byrne to Year 5/6
Firestone. Carly is studying teaching at Newcastle University
and will spend four weeks at Temora Public School.
Regards,
Sharon Reardon
Principal

A big thank you to those parents who volunteered to help on the Temora Aviation Museum kiosk and the Community Expo BBQ. Thanks to the efforts of these volunteers, the P and C will receive $500 from the aviation museum along with a profit from the expo which is yet to be finalised. This money will be used to buy resources for our school. Thanks particularly to Larissa Francis, Soozi Reid and Anne Macauley for organising the rosters for these events.
