TALK SLIDESHOWBY: ARCHIE COATS II

In this slideshow I will be speaking about Shimon Schocken and his Ted Talk on a Self – Organizing Computer Course .

Shimon Schocken

Shimon Schocken a former Dean at Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya, did a Ted Talk on a course he created to help people organize themselves better.

How did the Speaker capture the attention of his audience?

To grab his audiences attention, He started off by explaining his family history. I think that he used that information not only to show his background but as a way to introduce himself to the people in the audience that may not have known who he was.

How did the speaker maintain the engagement of the audience throughout the speech?

In my opinion I don’t think he did a great job in trying to keep the audience engaged with his speech. Sir Ken Robinson kept the audience laughing in both of his video. He always kept the audience responding to the topics he spoke about. Shimon Schocken on the other hand, didn’t really engage with audience. He didn’t get a response from them until he was done demonstrating his course.

Shimon Schocken Demonstrates his Self – Organizing Course

On a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the highest I would rate Shimon Schocken’s speech a 3. The reason I would give it a 3 is because even though he had a great speech, to me it seemed like it was mostly meant to capture a business minded audience. It wasn’t really meant for an crowd of avereage people. In my opinion I would try to make the speech more entertaining to keep my audiences attention and maybe even draw a bigger crowd.

In Shimon Schocken’s speech he did indeed use a couple of Garr Reynolnds’ tips. He had high quality images in his slides, his speech wasn’t long, and drawn out, and his transitions were spot on.

After watching Both Sir Ken Robinson and Shimon Schocken, I learned that there are different styles of doing speeches. You can make them serious and straight to the point, or you can make them humorous and keep your audience engaged in what your saying.

What advice would you give to your classmates?

The advice I would give to my classmate about doing a speech, is to keep it interesting. When you are doing your speech try to keep your audience enthusiastic about what you are talking about. Keep it short and to the point, and let you speech get off course.
