• What are funders looking for?

• How do you find out about funding priorities?

• How do I find local foundations?

• Can you explain about the federal LSTA grants?

• What helps me be persuasive?

Funding: Grant language

Content matters -- think it through!

• What’s the need?

• How are you meeting the need?

• How will you know you’ve met the need?

• How does this grant (money) help you do this?

Essential Questions for New Media

• What does new media add?• Who benefits from its addition and

how?• What developmental tasks or learning

goals does it support? • Does it support engagement and

content creation?• How are its best attributes being

utilized? • How is its impact being evaluated?

Challenging Our Assumptions

Technology is not the goal. Multimedia is just one tool, integrated into what we offer.

#ALSC14

Informed, skilled staff is essential.

Challenging Our Assumptions

Not every child needs his own device.

#ALSC14

Think outside the box, beyond 1-to-1.

Challenging Our Assumptions

Our culture values technology for all. We need to understand age appropriate developmental stages. Technology experiences looks different for different ages.

#ALSC14

Challenging Our Assumptions

We are not digital natives. We need the tools to navigate the world we live in and manage these tools. Children’s librarians are trail guides.
