Type of activity: reading, speakingFocus: Easter foodLevel: elementary + / pre-intermediateTime: 45 minutesPreparation:

– one copy of the Student’s Worksheet perstudent, folded as shown

Procedure:

1. Write the following countries on the board:France, Spain, Russia, Brazil, Greece. Ask thestudents what they know about the food eaten inthese countries. Elicit any ideas that the studentshave and record interesting or useful vocabularyon the board. Tell them that they are going tolearn something about the Easter foods typicalfor these countries.

2. Distribute the fi rst page of the Student’sWorksheet, folded as shown. The students workindividually, matching the dishes to the countries.They may then compare their guesses in pairs.Next, ask them to unfold their worksheets andread the text in Task 2 to check their answers. Askthe students which of the dishes they like most,and why.

3. The students answer the questions under the textin Task 2. Do not explain any vocabulary at thispoint. Let the students work individually, thencompare answers with a partner, and then checkwith the whole group.

4. Distribute the second page of the Student’sWorksheet. Let the students work in pairs andidentify the correct words or phrases for thedefi nitions in the text. Check with the wholegroup, focusing on meaning and drillingpronunciation where necessary.

5. Tell the students to change partners. They shoulddiscuss the questions in Task 4, making notes oftheir own and their partner’s answers. Monitorand help where necessary as they do this. Whenthey have fi nished, ask the students to changepartners once more and discuss the questionsagain with their new partner and share with themtheir previous partner’s answers. Collect and givefeedback.
