TEACHER LED PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
HARNESSING THE POWER OF THE PROFESSIONAL TO UNLOCK TRUE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Presenting the work of
Matthew B. Courtney
and the
Bluegrass Center
for Teacher Quality.
The systems for professional learning
available to America’s teachers are broken!
Few teachers are highly satisfied
with the professional development available to
them.
Professional development
formats preferred by administration are not meeting teacher’s needs.
Principals largely share in teacher’s
concerns regarding the
effectiveness of professional
development.
Few teachers think that their
PD has improved over the years. According to the 2014
report “Teachers
Know Best: Teacher’s Views on
Professional Development”
See for Yourself!
In 2013 we asked ourselves…
How can we make this better?
What We Did
We paid them to coach and teach their peers!
We asked teachers what they wanted.
We trained teachers to deliver high quality
professional development.
What Happened?
It started small, but after a year…
We had provided over 250 hours of FREE
professional learning on topics that mattered to
teachers!
We had trained over 1000 teachers on
everything from STEM to classroom management!
We had started a larger conversation about who really owns professional
learning!
In This Session
Participants will explore the current professional learning landscape.
Learn what we did, and how we did it.
Imagine a future where teachers are in control of their learning and growth!
Come dream with us and inspire the future!
