• SH 1 leaves Turangi and ascends onto the North Island Volcanic Plateau, passing through the fringes of the Tongariro National Park and into the Rangipo Desert, and is commonly known as the Desert Road

• 52km Affected – approx. 36 Minutes

• 107km Detour – approx. 84 minutes, adding 48 minutes to the journey

• MADT for the Desert Road for this month was 4300 vehicles – 179 vehicles per hour.

Dispatched• 3.00pm Communications that bridge was

“smashed” – Consultant en-route• 3.45pm Confirmed incident details and advised

only 1 lane closure with lights overnight – No road closure until the next day.
