Task 1:Write down environmental issues currently affecting the planet

Task 1 answers:Write down environmental issues currently affecting the planet

Global warming Deforestation Flooding/rising sea levels

Loss of animal habitatsExtreme weather

Overuse of earths resources

Air pollution

Learning Objectives:

To know a range of factors that are endangering the planetTo understand how buildings can either increase or reduce these factorsTo be able to suggest features the station could have to limit environmental impact

Task 2: Label the railway station to identify how the building might contribute to environmental problems

Building name What eco features does it have? What environmental problem does this reduce?

Tippet Rise Art Centre,Montana USA

K11 MuseaShopping Mall,Hong Kong

Accrington Station,Lancashire,England

PrahranHotel, Melbourne, Australia

West Kowloon Station,Hong Kong

Stuttgart 21 Station, Stuttgart, Germany

Task 3: Looking at the eco features of different buildings Use the internet to research the following buildings in order to complete the table

Task 4: Identify 5 features you could include in your station

which will help to limit environmental impact.

Write these down and explain which

environmental problem they will help to reduce.

An example has been given for you:

Eco featureExplanation of how this

will limit environmental impact

Outside of the station I will

include space to store and

secure a number of bikes

This will encourage users to cycle to the station

instead of using their cars. This will reduce CO2

emissions which

Come from the exhausts of cars. CO2

contributes to poor air quality and is one of the

gases which is destroying the ozone layer

leading to global warming. Cars run on petrol

which is made from oil. This is a finite resource

which is running out.
