HISTORY

• Ancient Chinese Puzzles• Begins with a square• Each piece is called Tan.

All pieces must be usedThey must touch, but not overlap.

LEGEND• A Chinese man Tan’s greatest

possession was fine ceramic tile.• He dropped a tile on his way to show

the emperor and it broke to 7 geometric shapes.

• Spent the rest of his life in putting them back together.

• He was not successful, however he succeeded in creating many designs.

• Tan enjoyed creating designs and later called as Tangrams.

• It is the oldest and most enduring geometric puzzles.

USE

• Used in storytelling Storyteller arranges the tan to

show the shape of the character. Pieces are rearranged to represent

the new characters or elements in the story.

Wolf and the Seven Magic

Shapes

This is the story of the three little pigs.

• One day, the three little pigs say goodbye to their parents to started to seek for their fortunes.

Form a pig using your tangram.

The first pig met a duck and gave him seven magic shapes, and the duck said: “Use them wisely.”

• Form a duck using your tangrams.

The pig said: “What can I do, I feel so lonely.” So he decided to have a companion, and have a cat.

• Form a cat using the seven magic shapes.

The wolf appeared and ate the pig and the cat.

• Form a wolf using the seven magic shapes.

The second pig met a rabbit and gave him seven magic shapes, and the rabbit said: “Use them wisely.”

• Form a rabbit using the Tangrams.

The pig said: “What can I do, It’s getting dark.” So he decided to have a candle.

• Form a candle using your seven magic shapes.

The wolf appeared and ate this pig too but not the candle.

The third pig met a swan and gave him seven magic shapes, and the swan said: “Use them wisely.”

• Form a swan using your tangram.

The pig said: “What can I do, I need a place to live.” So he decided to have a house.

• Form a house using your seven magic shapes.

The wolf appeared and huffed and puffed, but got nothing.

Our friend fell in love with the famous pig and they got married.

Now, they didn’t need two houses, so they decided to create a ship with the other seven magic shapes.

• Form a ship using the seven magic shapes.

The wolf appeared and huffed and puffed, and help them with their honeymoon around the world.
