ApplicationTheT4500AutoSynchronizerprovidesautomaticsynchronizationofanincominggeneratortoabusbarinaminimumoftime,bycontrollingthespeedviatheelectricservomotoronaconventionalspeedgovernor,orbycontrollinganelectronicspeedcontrol-lerviaanintermediatemotorizedpotentiometer.

TogetherwiththeT4800LoadSharer,theT4500providestheoptimalsolutionforgeneratorcontrol,bothinmarineandland-basedapplications.TheT4500istypeapprovedbymajormarineclassificationsocieties.

FunctionTheT4500measuresthevoltageacrosstwophasesoneithersideofthecircuitbreakerinordertoobtaindataonvoltage,frequencyandphasedifferenceforclosingthecircuitbreakeratexactphaseaccordance.

Thesynchronizationfunctionwillbecomeactivewhenthedifferencebetweenthebusvoltageandthegeneratorvoltageiswithinlimits,whichisindicatedontheDVOLTLED.

Thevoltagedifferenceisselectablebetween2%to10%(seetheresistortableonpage2forselectingtheDVoltwindowvalue).Ifthevoltagedifferenceistoohigh,thevoltagematching

functionoftheunitcanbeused(seetheseparatesectiononvoltagematching).

Whenthesynchronizationfunctionisactive,theT4500willautomaticallyadjustthespeedofthegeneratorthroughthegovernorinordertomatchthefrequencytothebusbar.Twobuilt-inrelaysprovidetheincreaseanddecreasepulsesforaconventionalgovernor.Thelengthofthepulsesisproportionaltothefrequencydifference.

TheE7800MotorisedPotentiometercanbeusedtoadaptthecontactpulsestoasignal,suitableforthespeedtriminputofanelectronicspeedcontroller.

TheT4500willcontinuouslyadjustthegeneratorspeeduntilthefrequencydifferenceiswithinlimits.ThefrequencydifferenceisadjustableonthefrontdialDIFF.FREQfrom0.1Hzto1.0Hz.

Beforethebreakercanbeclosedthisfrequencydifferencemust bepositive.Thereasonisthatinordertoprotectthegeneratoragainstreversepower,thegeneratorshouldcomeinataslightlyhigherfrequencythanthefrequencyofthebusbar.

Whenthevoltageandfrequencydifferencearewithinlimits,theclosingsignalwillbeactivatedjustbeforethenextphaseaccordance,anticipatingthecircuitbreakermaketime.

ThecircuitbreakermaketimeshouldbesetonthefrontdialC/BMAKETIMEaccordingtothespecificationsofthecircuitbreaker.TheT4500compensa-tesforthismaketimesothatthecircuitbreakerwillcloseexactlyatzerophase.

Thecircuitbreakerclosingsignalisapulsesignalof0.7secondsdurationatterminals9and10(CLOSE).Aconnec-tionbetweenterminals11and12(DISABLE)willdisabletheclosingsignal,butwillnotinfluencetheautomaticfrequencyalignment.

Whencommissioning,itisrecommen-dedtodisabletheclosingsignalwiththisconnection.CheckthattheclosingsignalindicatedontheRELAYLEDisatphaseaccordance.

Synchronizing between busbarsAuniquefeatureoftheT4500isthepossibilityofsimultaneoussynchroni-zationofalreadyparallelrunninggeneratorstoanotherbusbarsection,ashaftgeneratororthegrid.

Anoutputfromterminals12(COM)and13(FREQ.OUT)connectedtotheterminals12(COM)and29(FREQ.IN)onalltheT4800LoadSharers,willallowthefrequencytobealignedforsynchronizing.Seeapplicationdiagramfigure5.

Voltage matchingInsituationswherethevoltagedifferenceistoohighforobtainingsynchronization,thevoltagematchingfunctioncanbeused.

Thevoltagematchingworksasfollows:Whenthegeneratorcomesonvoltageandthebusbarvoltageispresent,adelayof4secondsallowsthegeneratorvoltagetostabilize,beforethevoltageadjustmenttakesplace.

Ifthegeneratorvoltageisoutsidelimits,arelayforincrease(terminals29and30-INCR.)andarelayfordecrease(terminals31and32-DECR.)areactivateduntilgeneratorvoltageiswithinlimits.
