In August 2001, Merle, LoAnns husband died and then 11 September happened. As if thedeath of her husband wasnt enough, LoAnn thought that the cancellation of flights nationwidewould keep Merles friend in St Louis from coming as well as other friends and family. Sheremembers how well Prs. Mix and McNamara handled the funeral and everything turned outwell. I start out LoAnns life story with this story to show how God has continually suppliedgrace and blessing for LoAnn throughout her life. She is an example to all of us of faithfulness,as well as grace in the midst of adversity.
When she was born, LoAnn was premature. Her mother held her close to her all the time inorder to keep LoAnn warm. Mary Zirkle lived just next door to her family and she always wishedthat she could hold the little baby, but LoAnns mother kept her close. Later in life, Mary realized the im-portance of LoAnns mothers protectiveness. Youd think that someone who had been so protected frombirth would be unwilling to step out and enjoy life; LoAnn is anything but fearful, however. Sit down with herand within minutes she is telling you of camping trips, farming mishaps and family fun that brings a smile toyour face.
She recounted that a few years before Merle died, her mother had come to live with them. One day asshe was tending to her mother inside the house, Merle decided to mow the grass with their tractor. He hadalways mowed the same way and today was no different. He must have gotten distracted, however, anddidnt see the low branch on the walnut tree. As LoAnn said, I went out to look for Merle and found him onthe ground. I yelled, What are you doing on the ground? and he replied, Dont try to get me up, get the
tractor, its going to mow down our soybeans! LoAnn says that she couldnt get him up and she began tolaugh about the mower going in circles in the field. She called several neighbors and finally found someoneto help out and retrieve it. Even as she told the story she was still laughing!
Another time, she and Merle were shingling their roof and they got hung up until late in the evening. They had designed the house together and had done much of the work themselves. When they went to de-scend, the frost had settled on the roof and it was too slick to go down. Merle slid down little by little on hisback side and melted the frost with his body heat and that allowed him and LoAnn to get off the roof safely!LoAnn still laughs at him complaining about the cold frost on his bottom and her laughing at him as he sliddown.
When they werent sliding down a frost covered roof or chasing runaway tractors, they liked to go camp-ing down by Charloe from time to time in the summer. Before then, they went to places like Crooked Lake in
Auburn, Indiana. The move to Charloe was closer and more convenient. They had a group from the churchthere at least one time; they also remember Pat and Jim Cochran joining them many times. The wholechurch group camped out, had food and fun. I am sure they told some good stories around the campfire.
Another time the church group went to Harrison Lake and someone was messing around in the canoeand the fruit basket was upset! The man got wet! That evening, another church group had camped acrossthe way and were cooking some delicious tacos. LoAnn kept saying loud enough for them to hear, I wishtheyd invite us over! She didnt expect them to invite them, but they came over and said they had enoughfor everyone! I guess it pays to speak loudly!
LoAnn has many more stories about her life and is willing to share with anyone, but the most im-portant thing that she shares is her faithfulness. I attribute her unwavering trust in her friends, family and inGod to the faithful relationships that she has shared with each. On Trinity Sunday, we heard from Romans

Please join us when we resume on Sunday, October 6.
Everyone have a great summer!
chapter 5, hope does not disappoint us, because Gods love has been poured into our hearts through the HoSpirit that has been given to us. What truer words are there than those from Paul to help us understand how
God has led LoAnn throughout her life? What truer words are there for each one of us?Even when things dont seem to go the way we want them to go, there is always
room to laugh and enjoy life and LoAnn exemplifies that for us. Thank you, LoAnn for sharing your stories;thank you for sharing your life with us; thank you for sharing Jesus!

DEACON SUPPORT TEAM
Included in the last few months Trumpets were articles about your deacons. If you were notaware of your deacon, do you now know her or him? We hope you have a sincere interest ingetting to know your deacon as a present and future friend and confidant. Our Pastor is thebest resource with whom to discuss questions and concerns, but your deacon can also serve
you in a similar way.Deacons are not exempt from having a deacon of their own. At times we need someone willing to lis-
ten and we turn to our deacon. As mentioned the last several months, deacons meet bi-monthly to discuss a variety of topics, but
more importantly we are available for you when your needs might require someone to talk with other thanPastor Tim occasionally.
We are grateful for the opportunity to serve the members of Zions Lutheran Church and we encourageyou to reach out to your deacon whenever the need arises.
If you are unsure about your deacon, please call the church office for assistance.Dick Anderson
