A journey of a million bottles begins with a single grape … And a dream of course, and a family that will stick by your side. Jill House, reflects on the journey that started almost 16 years ago when she started to make plans for what to do with her family’s orchard, “I kept thinking about how wine brings people together and knew it was something I could do ” Her dream started with 15 acres of grapes and a brother in law, Don, who maintains and manages the vineyard. The grapes are planted on the 100-year-old Fletcher family farm.

The downtown Hood River tasting room started in 2016 and plans are for a winery and lavender garden on the family’s estate vineyard, Broken Boulder Vineyards,

which is currently under construction and planning to open early 2019! It currently produces Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay. The first estate wine, the Dorothy Rosé, was named after Jill’s Grandma Dorothy.

“Her favorite color was pink, so I had to name our beautiful Rosé after her!”

Last Fall we released of first reserve wine, Artúr, which is named after Jill’s grandpa, Arthur Fletcher. Art was the inspiration for Jill to become a farmer. “He was an in-novator and was always thinking of how to make things better.”

To Gramps, Jill also dedicated her premium red blend, Quiver (Zinfandel, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet) that awarded with a double gold at Savor NW in 2017. Award-winning vintner Rich Cushman brings 40 years of experience. Rich and Jill work with vineyards within the Columbia Gorge AVA, and Columbia Valley AVAs, transforming the grapes into a line-up of award-winning regional wines appealing to novice and skilled tasters alike. Other wines currently on our tasting list include Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon with more varietals to come.

The tasting room feels like a cozy living room. Week-ends bring music performers from near and far, from bluegrass to hot jazz. For a calendar follow us on-line and via social media.

Complement your tastings with cheese and chocolate selections or pair your wine with food in a Legacy Tasting Experience. The menu has small plate options including one for kids.

Jill has never forgotten her legacy, which is why you’ll see an archery theme running throughout, starting with the family name; to fletch is to attach feathers to arrows. “Stave” refers to the length of an archer’s bow and to the rib of a wine barrel. Quiver refers to the arrows’ pouch.
