• OPEFB-g-PAAm, OPEFB-g-PAA and OPEFB-g-(PAA-co-PAAm) synthesized.

• Swelling behaviours of 5 wt % OPEFB-g-(PAA-co-PAAm) better than OPEFB-g-PAAm and OPEFB-g-PAA.

• OPEFB enhances swelling behaviours

of hydrogel
