Sustainability
Since 2002 GWS has provided relocation planning and management services for more than 10
million square feet of office, laboratory, hospital and retail space. Our specialty is large,
complex, multi-phased projects, often with 24/7 requirements. We work with our clients to plan
and manage the transition of their operations and the decommissioning of vacated space.
Scope of Work
Any time an organization moves or renovates, much of the corporate interior – furniture, appliances, computers, artwork, supplies – can end up in the landfill. A leading Fortune 100
company recently engaged GWS on a 2,200 person headquarters relocation and decommissioning project. Costs savings through asset repurposing and environmental impact were two key areas of concern for the client. The project plan included efforts to reutilize as
much FF&E as possible and diverting waste from landfills. Over the course of forty-five (45) days, GWS managed to move and/or liquidate approximately 2,245,600 pounds of the client’s furniture, fixtures & equipment (FF&E).
The HQ relocation and decommissioning project required a compressed time frame to meet
lease expiration dates with a focus on safety, risk mitigation and key performance indicators.
Key objectives included:
Identifying and relocating existing FF&E that could be reused in the new headquarters
environment
o Furniture GAP analysis
o Reutilization inventory
Prioritized disposition of Surplus Assets
o Charitable Organization (United Way, Goodwill, etc.)
o Recycle
o Liquidation
o Disposal
The following disposition model illustrates GWS’s efforts to reutilize assets and divert assets from landfills.
