Why Redevelopment?

• For every brownfield acre that is redeveloped, 4.5 acres of open space are preserved.(George Washington University 2002 Study)

• An analysis by King County, Washington, demonstrated that property that is vacant and eligible for redevelopment in the county’s growth areas can accommodate 263,000 new houses—enough for 500,000 people.

Expansion with little population growth

The percent of Pennsylvania’s total land area that is developed increased from:

4.1 percent in 1992 to 9.6 percent in 2005
