Proverbs 31:10-31Sunday Morning

May 11, 2014

Proverbs 31:10-2010 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. 11 The

heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. 12 She does him good and not evil All the days of her life. 13 She seeks wool and flax, And willingly works with her hands. 14

She is like the merchant ships, She brings her food from afar.

15 She also rises while it is yet night, And provides food for her household,

And a portion for her maidservants. 16 She considers a field and buys it; From

her profits she plants a vineyard. 17 She girds herself with strength, And

strengthens her arms. 18 She perceives that her merchandise is

good, And her lamp does not go out by night.

19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff, And her hand holds the spindle. 20 She extends her hand to the poor...

1. Mothers Day is a Day to Honor our Mothers and to Honor them Every

Day.

Exodus 20:12 "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the

land which the LORD your God is giving you.

Deuteronomy 5:16 'Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you in the land

which the LORD your God is giving you.

Ephesians 6:2-3 2 "Honor your father and mother,"

which is the first commandment with promise: 3 "that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth."

2. A Sign of the Last Days is Rebellion and Disobedience to

Parents.

2 Timothy 3:1-21 But know this, that in the last days

perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of

money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful,

unholy...

Proverbs 1:8 My son, hear the instruction of your father, And do not forsake the law of

your mother...

Matthew 15:4"For God commanded, saying, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'He who curses father or mother, let him be

put to death.'

Leviticus 20:9 "For everyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother.

His blood shall be upon him."

Proverbs 28:24 "Whoever robs his father or his mother, And says, "It is no transgression," The same is companion to a destroyer."

Proverbs 23:22 Listen to your father who begot you,

And do not despise your mother when she is old.

John 19:26-27When Jesus therefore saw His mother,

and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother,

"Woman, behold your son!" 27 Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" And from that hour that

disciple took her to his own home.

3. Mothers should Love, Care and Pray for their Children

Matthew 20:20 Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling

down and asking something from Him.

Matthew 20:21 And He said to her, "What do you

wish?" She said to Him, "Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on

Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom."

Proverbs 4:3 When I was my father's son, Tender and the only one in the sight of my

mother...

4. Mothers need to be Example to their Children

Ezekiel 16:44"Indeed everyone who quotes proverbs will use this proverb against you: 'Like

mother, like daughter!'...

1 Timothy 2:10"but, which is proper for women

professing godliness, with good works."

1 Timothy 5:2 "older women as mothers, younger as

sisters, with all purity"

1 Samuel 1:9-18 (New Living Translation)

9 Once after a sacrificial meal at Shiloh, Hannah got up and went to pray. Eli the priest was sitting at his customary place beside the entrance of the Tabernacle. 10 Hannah was in deep anguish, crying

bitterly as she prayed to the Lord.

11 And she made this vow: “O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, if you will look upon my sorrow and answer my prayer and

give me a son, then I will give him back to you. He will be yours for his entire

lifetime, and as a sign that he has been dedicated to the Lord, his hair will never

be cut.” 12 As she was praying to the Lord, Eli watched her.

13 Seeing her lips moving but hearing no sound, he thought she had been drinking. 14 “Must you come here

drunk?” he demanded. “Throw away your wine!” 15 “Oh no, sir!” she replied.

“I haven’t been drinking wine or anything stronger. But I am very

discouraged, and I was pouring out my heart to the Lord.

16 Don’t think I am a wicked woman! For I have been praying out of great

anguish and sorrow.” 17 “In that case,” Eli said, “go in peace! May the God of

Israel grant the request you have asked of him.” 18 “Oh, thank you, sir!” she exclaimed. Then she went back and began to eat again, and she was no

longer sad.

5. Proverbs tells us of a good Bible example of a Mother and Wife.

Proverbs 31:10-3110 Who can find a virtuous wife?

20 She extends her hand to the poor, Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy. 21 She is not afraid of snow for her household, For all her household is

clothed with scarlet. 22 She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine

linen and purple.

23 Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the

land. 24 She makes linen garments and sells them, And supplies sashes for the merchants. 25 Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to

come. 26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law

of kindness.

27 She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he

praises her: 29 "Many daughters have done well, But you excel them all." 30 Charm is

deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be

praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, And let her own works praise her in

the gates.
