Project title: Addressing Human-Orangutan Conflict in Agricultural Landscapes in Northern SumatraPI: Mr. Panut HadisiswoyoPeople encountered: Panut, Ricko, Kriezna, Rabin, Rudi, Ari, Rio, Paul Daley, etcMajor tasks:1. Setting up transect line in Gunung Leuser National Park for future monitoring of orangutans.2. Searching for and monitoring orangutans in fragmented forests in Kilang Alay3. Helping in restoring the forests within restoration site in Gunung Leuser National Park by planting trees, weeding around tree seedlings and collecting seeds in the primary forest.

Objectives of our project:1. Investigating and conducting mitigation of conflict incidents in agricultural areas prone to crop-raiding by orangutans.2. Conducting regular field monitoring of known isolated populations of orangutans, as well as monitoring of orangutans translocated through the HOCRU programme.3. Collecting data and mapping of forest-adjacent villages to gain understanding of crop-raiding species.4. Socialising mitigation methods to communities currently experiencing, or that may experience, HOC problems, through education and awareness raising materials and training activities.
