TEACHING RESOUCE

HELLO NI HAOLesson and Word Wall Cards

for parents

Lesson. Hello! Let’s say “Hello!” in Chinese! “Nǐ Ha ̌o!” “Nǐ” means “you”. “Ha ̌o” means “good”. This is the most commonly used Chinese greeting you will hear in everyday conversation. When we add the question word “ma” at the end of a sentence it shows that it is a question. How are you? – Ni hao ma? 你好嗎?

Hello Song

Hello! Hello! How are you? Nǐ hǎo nǐ hǎo nǐ hǎo ma 你 好 你 好 你 好 嗎你 好 你 好 你 好 吗

Very well. Very well. Thank you! Hěn hǎo hěn hǎo xìe xìe nǐ很 好 很 好 謝 謝 你很 好 很 好 谢 谢 你

(repeat 3 times)

There are two sets of cards: 1. Traditional Chinese-Pinyin-English set 2. Simplified Chinese set Are these traditional Chinese characters or simplified Chinese characters? The Blue frame indicates that all the Chinese Characters on that card are in traditional Chinese characters. The Green frame indicates that one or more Chinese characters on that card are in simplified Chinese characters. Play an “I spy the difference” game: Compare a few cards in traditional and simplified sets and spot the differences! Post the cards on the wall and use them as a visual tool when you listen to the audio program with your child(ren) or students.
