Sub : Report of Awareness and Educational Programme on “Monsoon Related
Diseases, BMD camp & management of Osteoporosis – July 2013.
Efforts were made to raise awareness about the severity of Gastroenteritis, Hepatitis A,
Cholera, Typhoid, Leptospirosis, Malaria, Dengue, Viral Fever, common Cold, Diarrhea,
conjunctivitis etc. and the benefits of taking preventive action.FWC staff provide this message to the
residents at the Mb.P.T residential colonies and for the employees at the workplaces. Despite the
availability of prevention information and resources, human behavior continues to be a primary
obstacle in preventing the diseases. Every illness is preventable and curable if procedures are
followed correctly. People tend to forget about the dangers thus on going awareness about its
prevention and treatment is essential.
Accordingly, Family Welfare Centre, Medical Department organized an Awareness and
Educational Programme on 1). BMD camp 2).Monsoon related diseases 3). Prevention &
Management of Arthritis, Osteoporosis & Related disorders 3). Healthy diet, life style modification 4).
Women related Health issues for the Mumbai Port Trust employees and their family members. The
programmes were held at the following venues :

Dr Samir Rajadhyaksha. Rheumatologist from Global Hospital delivered a very informative
and excellent talk on Management of Osteoporosis & related disorders.
No of Employees attended the camp on 23.07.13 :- 273.
No of Employees attended the camp on 24.07.13 :- 290.
No of employees detected for Osteoporosis :- 26
The ultimate objective of the programme was to prevent Mb.P.T. employees and their family
members getting infected from the above said Diseases. Overall the programmes were successful and
the response was good. Health Educator and her staff put in their efforts to make these programmes a great
success.
