Unpack the Problems

• Not studying properly or enough• Stuck at root words.

• Vocab is so much more than “roots”.•“acquire” does not mean the same thing as “acquisition”. These words function differently.

• Your vocab acquisition is limited to definition memorization only.

• Ex. AWL 2: Part 1, poor. Part 2, excellent.• You are not thinking of the USE of the word when studying in order to acquire the word.

1. Be Slick and Predict

• Grammar surrounding the blank (noun, verb, adjective, etc.)

2. Match-up Word Pairings

• Collocations– which word

commonly occurs with the words around the blank.

sentence and make sure that it makes sense!– You chose acquire based on knowledge:
