Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria is the third biggest island in terms of surface, with about 1.560 km2. The coast of the island is around 236 km long. When it comes to its population, Gran Canaria is the second most populated island, after Tenerife. The capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is proud to be able to offer cultural and leisure activities throughout the four seasons of the year.

Tenerife

Tenerife is the largest island, with an area of 2.034,38 km2. It is also the most populated island of Spain, with around 906.854 inhabitants, known as tinerfeños. Tenerife is famous for housing the highest mountain of Spain and the third highest volcano of the world, El Teide. The capital and the largest city of Tenerife is Santa Cruz.

Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura has an area of 1.659,74 km2. It is therefore the second largest island in the Archipelago after Tenerife. The capital of this elongated island is Puerto del Rosario. Fuerteventura constitutes, together with Lanzarote, the eastern border of the Canary Islands. The island is known for its paradisiacal beaches, perfect for practising surfing or windsurfing.

Lanzarote

Lanzarote is the northeasternmost island of the seven islands. It stands about 1.000 km off the Spanish mainland. The main transport connection is the airport of Arrecife. With an area of 845,94 km2, it represents the 11,29% of the total area of the islands. Lanzarote is known worldwide for its black sand beaches.

La Palma

La Palma, actually called San Miguel de la Palma, is the fifth largest island of the archipelago. La Palma belongs to the Spanish province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The capital is Santa Cruz de la Palma and the biggest city of the island is Los Llanos de Aridane. The island is also called „Isla Bonita“ or „Isla Verde“ because of its beauty. Special trade of La Palma is the observatory, one of the most prestigious of the world.

La Gomera

La Gomera is the second-smallest island of the Canary Islands, with an area of 369,76 km2. The most popular town is San Sebastián de la Gomera, which is also the main port and the capital as well. The island is perfect for hiking while enjoying the natural environment. Also worthseeing is Garajonay National Park. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986.

El Hierro

El Hierro is the smallest island of the seven Canary Islands. It is known for its volcano and the small earthquakes which occur on and off because of this.
