Step 1: Access Your Blackboard Course and Create Content Areas

Blackboard is a virtual learning environment and learning management system. It is a simple way to dissemi-

nate content to students electronically. Each class at KU has a corresponding Blackboard Course automatically

created. To access your course, follow these directions.

1. Go to courseware.ku.edu

2. Click on the login button to log in with your KU Online ID.

3. Enter your KU Online ID and password.

4. Under My Courses on the right side of the screen, go to your course’s homepage, and click on the course

name.

1. Make sure Edit Mode in ON.

Creating Content Areas

You need to start your course by creating a content area. You can create as many content areas as you need.

(see https://blackboard.ku.edu/navigation-buttons). An example of content area would be Syllabus, Course

Documents, Web Links, Discussions, and Video Lectures.

2. Click on the (+) symbol above the left navigation buttons. This will open a dialog box where you can select

the type of content you would like to create and name it as you wish.

3. Select Content Area. This is basically the type of content for which you will use the page.

4. Type the name of the button. You will likely want to create one for Syllabus, Course Documents, and Vid-

eo Lectures. For now, create Video Lectures.

5. Click the box: Available to Users.

6. Click Submit.

Repeat this process for each content area you wish to create such a Syllabus, Course Documents, Discussion,

etc.
