First, What is an Embedded Control?• Think of embedded controls as tiny computers

designed to do very specific things – there are 3 basic components (motherboard, processor and peripherals)

• Where can embedded controls be found… everywhere• Home appliances

• Washer/Dryer• Refrigerator• Microwave• Oven• Stove• Dishwasher

What is an Embedded Control?• Home electronics

• Televisions• Remote controls• Bedside alarm/clock radios• DVD Players• Printers• Monitors• Computer mouse

• Vehicles• Phones• Watches• Hobbyists’ Projects• The list goes on and on…

A Simple Example of an Embedded Control

Let’s take an alarm/clock radio – this device has atiny computer designed to do specific things• Know the current date/time (and maybe time zone)• Know what radio frequency is currently tuned• Know what button was just pushed

• Better yet, what buttons were just pushed and in what order• Provide feedback to the user

• Time/Date (visual display)• Alarm set (Yes/No) (visual display)• Radio station tuned (visual display)• Beeper for the alarm (audible feedback)

Why E3 Embedded and the PIEP?• We live in world of smart phones, smart cars, smart

appliances and soon to be smart everything – and – the demand for smart/connected products is only going to increase

• Likewise, the demand for electrical/computer engineers will also increase

• The number of hobbyists increases every year (people interested in robotics or home automation)

• We think our product can help fill the education gap• Easy to use• Start with the basics and build up• It was designed by an embedded developer to address

shortcomings of other systems

What is the PIEP?

A unique embedded development platform:• Processor Independent• Easy to use

• No special tools necessary• No soldering necessary• It has ‘pluggable’ and ‘stackable’ peripherals

• Rugged• Competitive Footprint (4x4 inches)• Plays well with Arduino – Arduino product

dominate the hobbyist market

Who will use the PIEP?• Engineers – to design and prototype their company’s

products and for low-volume production needs• The next great device by GE or Samsung must be prototyped

and tested before it goes to production• Enthusiasts (Hobbyists) – to build their own, home-

grown projects• Robotics• Home automation

• Educators – can teach students programming and interface with hardware at the same time• This is exactly what we hope to do right here at The

Clubhouse
