Stages Of DevelopmentFront Cover

Front Cover Draft

Firstly, I drafted a magazine cover on Microsoft Word, which gave me an idea of where I wanted everything to be placed and what I wanted on my cover. This is my finished draft, which was quite basic and simple.

Original Main Image

I then decided I wasn’t happy with the photos I had, so retook some more and decided to use the photo below, as my front cover. I used this photo as it shows a typical student in a happy and positive stance to represent a good side of the college.

Adding a masthead and editing picture levels

I edited this image on Photoshop – adjusting the levels and skin complexions to make the image of the person appear brighter. This image now shows my finished editing of the front cover main image and the masthead that I redesigned from my draft. My masthead design now stood out more and looked more unique to the magazine than in my original draft. I decided to make my magazine free as it is aimed at the students of the college and therefore as a student, many don’t want to spend too much money.

Adding main cover lines

After, I added the main cover lines across the front of the image, which I made big and bright in an eye-catching font, which I would hope to draw attention to the magazine cover. The main cover line across the front of the image is in a different font to the rest of the cover writing so it differentiates from the rest of the cover, and is bright so it stands out from a distance.

Adding all cover lines, footer and drop- shadowing

Next, I added the rest of the cover lines, and altered the font, colour and added drop shadows to make it bright and to make it stand out from a distance. The colour of the sell-lines differentiate between each one, so the main articles inside the magazine stand out above the rest.

Finishing my front cover

To finish my front cover, I added a flash to make the magazine more appealing to get. I also added a footer to the bottom of my front cover which gives a glimpse of what’s inside the magazine. I finished my adjusting some of the drop shadows and effects on the image and writing to make it stand out more, and then my front cover of the magazine was complete.
