FOR YOUR INFORMATION
Fr. Glen Sayers, SDS
Birth: November 8,
Profession: August 15, 1993
Ordination: November 22, 1997
Death: October 25, 2019
Father Glen William Sayers SDS was born in Jackson, Michigan on November 8, 1943. He was one of three sons born to Arthur and Francis
(Hudson) Sayers. He attended St. John’s Grade School and St. John’s High School. He graduated in 1961 and two years later enlisted in the
United States Marine Corps. He served for four years of active duty (1963-1967) and two years with the Marine Corps Reserve (1967-1969).
He fought in Vietnam and received several commendations and service medals.
When he returned to the States, he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana. He was employed
for a large oil and energy company in San Antonio, Texas.
Glen then began to sense a call to religious life and the priesthood in the late 1980’s, beginning at the Oblate School of Theology in San An-
tonio. After reading about the Salvatorian community and their mission, he became a Candidate for the Society in January of 1992. He en-
tered the Society’s Novitiate in August of that year and made his profession of vows the following year, August 15, 1993. Glen did his for-
mal training for the priesthood at Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology in Hales Corners. He was ordained a deacon at Divine Sav-
ior Parish in Orangevale, California on August 24, 1996, and received his Master’s Degree from Sacred Heart in 1997. Glen ministered as a
Deacon at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Cookeville, Tennessee and its two mission parishes. He was ordained a priest at St. Mary’s Church
in Chilton, Wisconsin on November 22, 1997, and then returned to Cookeville after the ordination to serve as Associate Pastor for the three
parishes and as Campus Minister for the students at Tennessee Tech University until 2000. After, he served at many parishes including
Catholic Parish Ministry in Chilton, Wisconsin, St. Mary of the Visitation Parish, St. Joseph Parish and Holy Family Catholic School in Hunts-
ville, Alabama, combined. As if that didn’t keep him busy enough, he served as the Huntsville Area Coordinator for the society members for
a few years.
Frequent bouts with respiratory issues plagued Fr. Glen in his last few years. He unexpectedly, though peacefully, died in his home at Alexi-
an Village on the morning of October 25, 2019. People to whom he ministered described him as gentle, quiet, and pastoral priest. One
parishioner wrote: “In your walk of faith there are some ministers nd priests who speak to you more than others. For me, Fr. Glen was one
of those. He was the priest who made me realize that coming home to the Catholic Church was my final destiny. He spoke to my soul and
brought me closer to Christ.”
Fr. Glen is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Frances, and his brother, Arthur. He is survived by his brother Thomas (the late
Paula) of Glendale, Arizona, nieces Alexan-
dra, Christina, and Erin, sister-in-law Maria
Sayers, as well as his brothers and sisters in
the Salvatorian Family.
“Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon him.
