GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE
DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE
Easter Sunday
Can you imagine that moment? Can you imagine the
stomach drop with dizzying realization: "It's all true. All
of it is true! The past three years weren't a dream that
ended horribly wrong." Can you imagine all the doubts
and despair of the past days chased away like smoke on
the wind by a rolled up burial cloth? By an empty tomb?
It didn't start that way, of course. "'They have taken
the Lord from the tomb, and we don't know where they
put him.'" This frantic news from Mary Magdalene
would have been another unexpected blow. After all that
happened, now his body has been stolen? The love and
devotion in Peter and John is apparent. They don't wait to
collect more information or stop by the tomb when they
have a chance. They run to the site. When is the last time
you ran for something? This isn't a run for exercise, but a
huffing and puffing bolt fueled by desperation. Can you
imagine that moment? The fear pounding in their temples,
matching their accelerated heart rate. Can you imagine the
impatient affection of John, who outruns Peter but refuses
to enter the tomb alone? And then, upon entry, "He saw
and believed."
This is the drama of our great feast! The promise
that seemed lost has been found. The dead are raised.
Long before the Easter eggs and ham, we are invited to
meditate on this divine reality. We are invited to feel
the desperation and joy of that first Easter Sunday deep
in our bones. Because it is not just Mary's story. It's not
Peter and John's story. It's our story. From the greatest
defeat can come the most awe-inspiring victory, and this
is true not just for our God, but for each one of us. He is
risen indeed! Alleluia!

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults He is risen! Alleluia! During Lent we called to mind our sins, repented and practiced self-denial but now is the time
to rejoice with the knowledge that our efforts are not fruitless. The Resurrection is the sure sign of our victory! At all
the Masses on Easter we renew our Baptismal promises and when the Celebrant asks, “Do you believe?” we enthusiasti-
cally respond, “I do!” Our Baptism was our experience of being born again into a new spiritual, eternal life and our sins
were washed away. It was a joyous occasion when everyone celebrated, although if we were infants at the time we were
not aware of what was taking place. But today we confirm that we are aware of our rebirth and personally attest and
speak for ourselves that we believe and promise to live lives as children of God that will make our Father proud.
Alleluia!

BIBLE
The Easter Vigil readings demonstrate the central issue of human life and salvation history, and are repeated every
year. God with an extreme love first creates us but then, in human fashion, punishes those who disobey his wise
laws. At least two of six optional readings from the Old Testament (Gen 1:1~2:2, Gen 22:1~18, Is 54:5~14, Is 55:1~11,
Bar 3:9~15+32~4:4, or Ezek 36:16~28) must be read in addition to Ex 14:15~15:1, as well as the Epistle (Rom 6:3~11)
and Gospel (Lk 24:1~12). Typified by the obedience of Abraham and Isaac, God is willing to sacrifice even that which
he loves most to draw us to himself. Exodus is the story of God’s single-handed defeat of the power of evil at the Red
Sea; Romans explains that we, the baptized, are united in Christ and freed from our slavery to sin and death; Luke’s
account is one of amazement of the witnesses to the empty tomb. Take time to read and meditate on them all.
Our Bible Study-Discussion Group sessions will resume on Thursday evening, May 2.
We had a hopping good time! Even with the wet weather Palm Sunday we had a great turn out for the Egg Hunt. Special thanks to the
Easter Bunny for stopping by and all who helped make this event a huge success.
With your generous support we filled 1372 Easter eggs and had plenty of snacks and goodies for all who attended.

NEW EVANGELIZATION
Easter is a time of rejoicing. His Resurrection is the
guarantee that our own resurrection will take place after
we die. But we must not forget that, until our inevitable
death, we remain in this lifetime of Lent with our present
suffering, trials and temptations. At present our resurrec-
tion remains only a hope in the promise that we who
believe and patiently endure with self-denial and service
to the needs of others will be rewarded with the joys of
eternal life. So let us rejoice and be grateful that sin,
evil and death itself will die, and only the good will live
forever. In the meantime, however, let us imitate our
Lord’s life and continue in our efforts to be attentive to
the needs and sufferings of those around us and share the
conviction of our Faith and Hope that we will rise to be
with them. Rejoice and be glad, and share the Good
News!
