About us:

Ben WoolhouseHead of Outdoor Education. Been teaching at St Leonard’s since 2004.Before working at St Leonard’s, worked as a Ski Instructor for 4 years at: Mt Hotham, Whistler (Canada), Sierra at Tahoe (California), Sun Peaks (Canada) plus work as ski technician and on mountain photographer.Have 2 daughters – Taya (yr 1), and Sierra (yr 3) both at St Leonard’s.

Year 5 and 6 Snowsports Development Camp

• Open only to students of years 5 and 6, of all abilities

• June 24 - 28 (first week of holidays)

• Falls Creek

• Accommodation at Cooroona lodge

• $1200 per student, all inclusive

• $1111 if student has own skis / board

Year 5 and 6 Snowsports Development Camp

• Breakfast and Dinners included, catered by Cooroona lodge.

• Lunches included – provided by on mountain restaurant.

• Package includes snowsports lesson each day with Falls Creek Snowsports School

• Maximum 40 students and 7 staff

• Bookings open on March 22 via bit.ly/5and6snowsports

Secondary Development Camp

• Open to years 7 – 12 of all abilities

• June 28 – July 3 (first week of holidays)

• Falls Creek

• Accommodation at Cooroona Lodge

• $1450 per student, all inclusive (except lunches)

• $1356 if student has own skis / board

Secondary Development Camp

• Breakfast and Dinners included –catered by Cooroona.

• Students buy own lunch each day.• Package includes snowsports lesson each day

with Falls Creek Snowsports School, hopefully including some race course experience (conditions dependent)

• Maximum 50 students and 7 staff.• Bookings open on March 22 at bit.ly7-

Junior School Snowsports Camp

• New for 2016!

• Open only to St Leonard’s College students from Prep –Year 4.

• Thursday July 21 – Sunday July 24.

• Falls Creek staying at Cooroona Lodge.

• We have the whole lodge booked out – aim is to have each family in their own room (with ensuite).

• Cost per student of $820, which includes, transport, accommodation, lift, 3 x lessons and rental, breakfasts and dinners.

Junior School Snowsports Camp

• Parent must accompany student and have duty of care at all times outside lessons.

• Cost per parent / guardian of $900, which includes all of the above.

• Participants will need to purchase their own lunch each day.

• Discount of $74 for participants with own skis / board.

Victorian Interschools SnowSportsChampionships

• It is about fun, having a go, challenging yourself.

• Students are only needed on the mountain for the day (s) of their event(s)

• Competitors should be able to comfortably ski a blue run

• Students do not need to have done a development camp

• Division 1 Years 11 and 12

• Division 2 Years 9 and 10

• Division 3 Years 7 and 8

• Division 4 Years 5 and 6

• Division 5 Years 3 and 4

• Division 6 Year 2 and below

Teams

• To achieve a team score, teams need to include:

• 3-4 competitors for Alpine. Fastest 3 times in each run needed to achieve team result.

• 2-3 competitors for Skiercross, Freestyle Moguls, Snowboard Giant Slalom and Snowboard Cross.

• Team results in Snowboard Cross, Ski Cross and Moguls are calculated on two best times/scores from the first qualifying run. Snowboard Giant Slalom team result will be calculated by the fastest 2 runs in each of the two runs

Events - Skiing

• Alpine GS - Skiers are timed on a modified giant slalom course.Each competitor gets 2 runs. Second run is done in reverse order. Final score is combination of both timed runs.

• Skiercross - Skiers are timed on a gated obstacle course.One run only - Top 16 fastest times progress to a finals heat / second run.

• Freestyle Moguls - Skiers are scored on a bumps/jumps course.Scores for style / technique of turns and for jump.

• Slopestyle – div 1 and 2 only. Through terrain park, scored on jumps and style.

Events - Snowboarding

• Snowboard GS - Boarders are timed on a modified giant slalom course

Each competitor gets 2 runs. Second run is done in reverse order. Final score is combination of both timed runs.

• Boardercross - Boarders are timed on a gated obstacle course.

One run only - Top 16 fastest times progress to a finals heat / second run.

• Slopestyle – div 1 and 2 only. Through terrain park, scored on jumps and style.

Australian Interschools

• September 7 -11, 2016

• Top 15 individuals at Vic titles qualify

• Top 10 if less than 30 competitors

• Top 6 teams qualify

• 2016 Australian Interschools at Perisher

• Additional costs for this event

Opening / Closing Ceremony

• Monday August 22

• Saturday August 27

• Daily presentations in Latrobe Uni Sports hall, 5pm.

• Please attend when possible, and wear St Leonard’s attire.

Snowracer

• Each competitor has free membership to Snowracer.

• Automatic with your entry

• Provides insurance coverage for events.

Duty of Care

• Parents are responsible for their child(ren) at all times

• Teaching staff on Mountain to coordinate

• Parent / Student responsible for own transport, accommodation

Accomodation

• A range of accommodation is available, but it fills up quickly.

• It is possible to stay off the mountain, but we do not recommend this.

• Private lodges usually open bookings to public in April / may.

Team managers

• Parents are needed to help each team

• Must be competent skier / boarder

• Supervise students in the team, meet at prearranged place,

• Stay up to date with program changes –snowsports app.

• Understand rules, procedures etc.

• Eligible for discounted lift pass - $65 per day

Volunteer officials

• We are obliged to provide officials – set number per number of entries for each school.

• No experience necessary.

• May need to be able to ski / board blue run –to access the race courses.

• Eligible for free lift pass.

Costs

• Entry is $49 per event

• Competitor lift pass – $39 per day

Clothing

Team Hoodies

• We have organised some high quality fleece hoodies, embroidered with St Leonard’s College logo and Snowsports. These will be available to order soon.

Softshells

St Leonard’s College softshell jackets are now available from the uniform shop and can be worn as part of the sports uniform. Being a fleece they are suitable to be worn skiing and in the outdoors (under a water proof jacket).

Gear
