ANZAC DAY At the Assembly on Monday, the Year 6M class led us in a beautiful reflection on the meaning of ANZAC. It was a beautiful and meaningful prayer service which focused on the sacrifice made by many to ensure our freedom and safeguard our way of life. Anzac Day, 25 April, is one of Australia's most important national occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand (ANZAC) forces during the First World War. Anzac Day is the day on which we remember all Australians who served and died in war and on operational service. The spirit of Anzac, with its qualities of courage, mateship and sacrifice, continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity. As Australians we recognise 25 April as a day of national remembrance, hence the public holiday. These remembrances take the form of Commemorative services which are held across the nation at dawn and Commemorative ceremonies which are held at war memorials. FUN-A-THON This Friday is the Fun-a-thon organized by the P&F. We are looking forward to an enjoyable day as the children participate in a variety of fun activities. Fingers crossed that the weather will be kind to us and allow this event to go ahead as the children are very excited and looking forward to the day. Thank you to all our families who have supported this event by ‘sponsoring’ the children. A huge thank you to Fran Ravalli who has co-ordinated and done much of the organizing for this event and to all the P&F committee for their help and support. We thank the teachers and all the parents who will be helping on the day. These events are only successful if everyone lends a hand and assists in different way. Thank you everyone. I hope the children thoroughly enjoy their activities. All the students are advised to wear their tracksuits and runners for the day. MATHS FAMILY NIGHT Next Wednesday 3
rd May we are holding our Family Maths Night starting at 6.30pm and concluding at 8pm. During the
evening there will be math activities stationed across the school that families may like to try. This evening is an opportunity for our families to come along and experience math learning and to gain a greater understanding of how mathematics is learnt across the school. We thank Mrs Di Stefano, our Mathematics Leader, and the student Math Leaders for this initiative and all the St Damian’s staff for their generosity in giving up their time to support the evening. We hope to see many families next Wednesday participating in the various math stations.
Age shall not weary them, Nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, And in the morning. We will remember them
Lest We Forget Have a great week

Enhancing Catholic School Identity (ECSI) St. Damian’s is once again participating in the ECSI survey which will assist us in better understanding how our Catholic Identity is expressed in work and practice here at St Damian’s. The Catholic University in Leuven, (Katholieke Universiteit, Leuven) was commissioned by the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria Ltd (CECV) to design a process and tools, based on sound research, to accomplish the goal of understanding our current Catholic identity and where the school community might like to see it in the future. All staff, Year 5 and Year 6 students and a group of parents are asked to complete these confidential surveys. It is essential that we have a group of parents fill in the survey in order that we get an overall view of our entire community. I will be randomly sending these surveys out over the coming days. If you do not receive a survey but are interested in filling one in please do not hesitate to contact me: amccarthy@sdbundoora.catholic.edu.au as I would be delighted to have input from as many parents as possible. Thank you for your support of our school. Social Justice Our Social Justice Leaders; Simone, Sofia, Samuel and Laura, will begin the process of working together this term to inspire our community to act for others. I am looking forward to working with this enthusiastic group of students. Aoife Mc Carthy Religious Education Leader

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
This week 2BW has been learning all about ANZAC Day.
ANZAC Day is on the 25th of April every year and ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. It is a special
time to remember those who died in wars and say thank you for protecting our country. Below are some samples of work we have created to showcase our learning.
Mahek 2BW
Dear Family, I am so sorry I am missing out on exciting things like Christmas and Aunty Gracie’s wedding. But I have to save people and I am saving you. Please don’t be too scared, I am still your brave little soldier. Remember I am making Australia safe. I love you so much, Love Sienna

ANZAC Day at the Footy By Ben
Yesterday I went to Collingwood and Essendon. I went with my brother, cousin, uncle and dad.
It was my first ANZAC day game I had been too.
The first goal was scored by Joe Daniher and the score at quarter time was 27-8. Essendon were winning. Jamie Elliot scored 3.1 and Mason Cox almost scored. The score at half time was 42-39.
Before the game started they did the Last Post with the bugle. They also had a one minute silence and sang the National Anthem of Australia and New Zealand. There were lots of soldiers at the
game with medals on.
Essendon won the game.
