Saints & Really Good People
“It is better to wear out than to rust out,”
said Mary Ann Shadd (Cary), the African-
American newspaper publisher, abolitionist,
and lawyer who died in 1893. Shadd was
born in Delaware to parents whose home
was a sanctuary on the Underground Rail-
road, but when the Fugitive Slave Act
threatened the family’s freedom, they fled to Canada. There
Shadd established an integrated school and The Provincial
Freeman, an anti-slavery newspaper that highlighted the
voices of African Americans. She was the first Black woman
in North America to edit a newspaper. After the Civil War,
Shadd attended Howard University and earned a law degree
at the age of 61. She spent the rest of her life working for the
full equality of women and Black people.

Thank you to all our parishioners
who contribute to St. Brigid Parish
through Electronic Fund Transfer
using their credit cards. Since many
credit cards have recently been
compromised or have been issued a new expira-
tion date, we may need to update your card in-
formation in order to process your donation. If
you have recently been issued a new credit card by
your bank, please contact the Parish Office at 614-
761-3734 with your new card number and expira-
tion date. St. Brigid of Kildare is very grateful for
your continued support and generosity.
Dear St. Brigid of Kildare Parish,
Thank you for your generous gift to
the Furniture bank of Central Ohio.
Your gift will impact more than 3,500 central Ohio families and
individuals that we serve this year who are struggling with pov-
erty and other severe life challenges. Having a bed to sleep in, a
kitchen table to share a family meal and a dresser for their
clothes can be the boost they need to further improve their lives.
I extend our heartfelt gratitude for St. Brigid’s continuing sup-
port of our efforts to turn empty houses into homes for families.
With sincere gratitude,
The Furniture Bank of Central Ohio

St. Brigid of Kildare Church—Dublin, Ohio Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time—June 17, 2018
Come join your fellow parishioners in making
1,000 bologna sandwiches to be distributed to
local food pantries. Sandwich Saturday is a
great opportunity for all ages, to earn service
hours, and to meet new people while giving back to the
community. Sandwich Saturday will be held Saturday June
23 at 9:00am in the school cafeteria. Many hands make
light work, we are usually finished in about 30 minutes.
This is a project of the Social Action Committee.
St. Brigid of Kildare parish is now in the
4th week of the 2018 Bishop’s Annual Ap-
peal. We have raised $145,223.33 of our
$288,000 goal. We are about halfway.
We would like to thank all the parishioners
that have pledged to this year’s campaign.
Please remember that the BAA funds the education of semi-
narians. The future of our Church relies on the education of
seminarians on their journey to become priests. This is just
one of the many good causes your donation will fund.
If you have not had the opportunity to donate please use
one of the pledge cards provided in the basket at the back of
the church and place them in the offertory baskets or return
them to the parish office. No gift is too small. We need
everyone’s participation to make this goal. Thank you.
Do you have difficulty hearing the
readings and sermons on Sundays?
The parish has invested in a hearing
amplification system that works with or
without a hearing aid!
We now have 12 lovelier receivers available. They can be
borrowed from a kiosk in the gathering area; worn around
the neck, with a speaker placed over the ear.
The device has volume control buttons to adjust to your
hearing needs. Sit anywhere in the church with a direct line
of sight to the altar and you will again clearly hear priests,
deacons and lecterns...all at no charge, just return the
equipment at the end of Mass.
If you have questions you may call Mike Sliclen at
614-519-6972; or Dan Schreibeis at 614-578-2363.
Bring the whole family to the Josephinum
4-Miler! The Fr iends of the Josephinum
invite adults and children of all ages for a
4-mile run/walk at Glacier Ridge Metro Park,
Dublin, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on
September 15, 2018.
This professionally run event is open to the
public; free parking is available. Participants will receive
great takeaways, including wine or jam and bread. Register
now to receive a family discount or early registration rate
for the first Catholic-sponsored event of this kind in the
area. Register at m3ssports.com (click “coming events” then
“Josephinum 4-Miler”).
The Friends of the Josephinum offer this unique event to the
whole diocese and invite you to join the family fun! Walk or
run at your own pace and enjoy a September morn in the
park. Proceeds benefit seminarians of the Pontifical College
Josephinum. Sponsorships are available; please call Joe
Kohler at 614-436-2441.

We all long to be loved and accepted—
from the playground to the lunchroom
to the places where we live and work as grown women. We
do our best to prove we’re lovable and to avoid being left all
alone. But the truth is that it’s impossible to walk through
life without experiencing the pain and loneliness of betrayal,
shame, guilt, loss, judgment, or rejection. These wounds can
shape our views of ourselves, others, and God and even
make us question if we are worthy of love and acceptance.
Whether old or new, our heartache can convince us there’s
no one who understands or cares. Yet, Jesus tells us a differ-
ent story, promising us that we are never alone. Registration
will begin on July 30th.

“My son, do not despise the
chastening of the Lord, nor detest His
correction; for whom the Lord loves
He corrects, just as a father the son in
whom he delights.”
-- Proverbs 3:11-12
Reflect: Think of a time when your father corrected you.
How did you feel then? After time passed, how did your
feelings change? If you can, thank your earthly father for
helping you to choose what is right, and ask our Heavenly
Father to grant wisdom upon all the fathers in your life

Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Mission Project
The Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was
founded in India by a French Missionary, Fr. Louis Savinien Dupuis, in 1844. The
vision of our founder was to promote the education of poor girls. Faithfully following
his vision, our sisters continue to dedicate themselves to a variety of apostolates,
especially to those marginalized and most in need.
Our mission project for this year is to help the young girls in Bihar, in
the northern part of India. It is one of the remote mission areas where
the people are economically poor. A very few of the children receive
formal education. Recently our sisters have developed educational
activity centers for the poor girls in this tribal area.
Our goal is to provide at least five years of education for girls between
the ages of 5 and 12. During these years, the girls stay with us and re-
ceive free boarding. And the good news is that after the young girls
have grown and developed with five years of basic education, they
have a better understanding of the need for more education.
Two of our sisters, Sr. Amelia Mary and
Sr. Merrita Mary will be coming to St.
Brigid of Kildare parish on the weekend of June 23rd and 24th.
They will be explaining what they do and the Mission Project.
Please be generous in this Mission Appeal.
Thank you & God bless!
