Lent is a time of almsgiving, fasting and prayer.
Come pray the Rosary before each weekend mass
or spend time in Adoration after Saturday evening
mass or Wednesdays after 11 a.m.
Join us for Soup & Share every Wednesday after
mass or join us for 6:30 p.m. mass & 7 p.m. Stations
of the Cross on Fridays. We will know and love God through Word, Worship and
Service, Father Shimit, Russell, Ken, Charmaine, Roy,
Mark, Nicole, Franziska, Deacon Rollie.
Lent has two major purposes: It recalls or pre-
pares for baptism, and emphasizes a spirit of pen-
ance. Through 40 days of closer attention to God’s
Word and of more fervent prayer, believers are prepared
to celebrate the Paschal Mystery.
Lent instructions stress these baptismal and peniten-
tial themes. During Lent, it is important to teach the social
consequences of sin as well as the fact that the heart of
the virtue of penance is hatred of sin as an offence
against God.
The Church encourages penitential practices that are
external and social, reflecting the circumstances of
individuals and communities, as we pray and do penance
for sinners. Some forms of penance may be fasting,
almsgiving, prayer and works of mercy.
Christian Fasting: The Paschal Fast is observed on Good Friday, and where possible, continued through Holy Saturday. In the Roman Rite, including in Canada, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting and of abstinence from meat. Christian fasting is a penitential discipline intend-ed to open our hearts to God and others, a means of purification and spiritual liberation, a witness of the depth of our faith. The law of “abstinence from meat” binds those who are 14 and older; the law of “fasting” binds those from 18 to 59 years of age. Fridays are days of abstinence from meat, but Catho-lics may substitute special acts of charity or piety on this day. Parents...are reminded of their duty to introduce children to the...understanding and practice of penance. Their actions...will be the greatest influence..2020 Ordo:

convenience of not having to write cheques or find cash each
Sunday; allows you to support the parish when you are away

parish benefits from the steady and anticipated revenue

learn about and pray for the people of ZIMBABWE.
