Parents Who Just Don’t UnDerstanD

And

Kids These

Days

Judge Panel

Hear ye! Hear ye! Hear ye!

(1,2)

Judge panel

Good morning one,

good morning all.

We are gathered here

For an airing of grievances.

A trial of error.

To talk it out once and for all.

It’s good for the soul!

And soooo….

And so!

Judge panel

We call for silence

The utter attention of those

in attendance.

With that, we present to you

‘parents who just don’t

understand’

And ‘kids these days’.

(1,2,3)

Parents

We’re a rather big group

Kids

Like duh…

So let’s get right down to it

Parents

Oh, shall we?

(1,2)

Kid solo

Not once!

Kids

Not once!

Did you! ever support me!

You never ask how I feel!

You just scold me alllllll

day.

Nag, nag, nag, is alllll I

hear

Every time of the day

Every day of the year!

(1,2,3)

Parents

What?! We don’t care

about you?

Is that what you think?

Is that what you really

feel? (1,2)

We want the best for you

Give up so much for you

We only do what we do

Because We. Love. You.

Kids

Ha!

Parents

Ha?! Don’t you ‘ha’ me!

If you balanced your time

This wouldn’t be an issue

Kids

There you go, nagging

again.

Kid solo

Balancing time?

You think it’s that easy r?!

(1,2,3)

Parents

You could at least try!

Instead of being so defensive

all the time (1,2)

No, no, no is all I hear

Every time of the day

Every day of the year!

Judge panel

Alright!

Settle down, settle down

(1,2)

There is no error here

Not for any

Not at all

A difference in perspective

Is what seems to be the cause

buut….

That doesn’t mean all effort

must be lost (1,2)

Judge Panel (To kids)

No, it’s not easy but

You still have to try

You reap what you sow

Be wise and walk the line

(1,2)

Judge panel (To parents)

Fathers and mothers

Intentions are right and

well, but..

Do not let them suppress

the child

For whom they were meant

Proceed! (1,2)

Parents

Well, it would be nice if

you could make us a

priority

It’s always friends,

friends, friends (1,2)

Amanda Solo

Blood is thicker than

water (1,2)

So they say and for good

reason (1,2)

Hear, hear! (1,2)

PARENTS

You’ll see,

When trouble comes your

way. (1,2)

KIDS

Okay, while we’re at it, then

I’ll be honest too!

I feel my friends get me more

than you!

We don’t have to fight,

scream, slam doors at every

conversation!

They don’t blame me for

everything or make me feel

small.

Why is everything I do so

wrong in your eyes?

You constantly make me feel

bad

About how I handle life. (1,2)

JUDGE PANEL

Uh pardon me, if I may,

This could all very well be

just a simple lack of

communication.

Misunderstandings and

unfair accusations lead

nowhere

But neither side says what

they should

To truly clear the air.

Even through fear, discomfort

or doubt,

Say what you must to sort it

out. (1,2)

PARENTS

The intention is never to put

you down,

it’s to help you grow!

We tell you these things

because we care for you so.

(1,2)

It doesn't make sense! To hurt

those whom we adore.

Just see things from our side

before you say anymore! (1,2)

KIDS

I can’t read your mind! (1,2)

You can be hard to understand,

I’m sure I am.

Sometimes I can’t find the

words,

Sometimes it all makes no

sense!

We are all so angry!

It’s more than we can stand.

(1,2)

JUDGE PANEL

If I may once more,

Interrupt the proceedings

Indeed communication is the

key to a happy home,

No need for arguments or

petty disdain.

Effort from both sides is

what really matters,

Forgive instead of holding

grudges.

Move on each time you fail,

Try and try again,

Push past the pain. . .

Parents and Kids

Are you supposed to

interrupt this often?

JUDGE PANEL

please, clearly we all know I

give GREAT advice. (1,2)

PARENTS

Maybe…. we just see things

differently,

you and me.

The looooooong and short-

sight of it all, sometimes you

can’t see beyond your own

opinion and that’s where we

start to fall. (1,2)

JUDGE PANEL

Indeed!

The bigger picture!

The central view!

The forest instead of the tree

The…

OI!

JUDGE PANEL

Hmph!

JUDGE PANEL

Proceed. (1,2)

Parents and Kids

Different doesn’t automatically mean

wrong,

Different is perspective, to not see this was

a fault.

There are many things we both have to put

up with.

Tolerance and understanding will be our

new guide. (1,2)

ALL (TO JUDGE PANEL)

Don’t you have anything to say this

time? (1,2)

JUDGE PANEL

As a matter of fact we do

In fact, we’ll rhyme it all, just for you

Life is a struggle,

And through it, we muddle

But know this good folks,

Put Him first and the rest will follow.

Try on your own and try you must

You’ll be just fine, in the Lord you will

trust

We’re all in the same boat really,

In our different ways

That’s what keeps things interesting,

Every, single, day. (1,2)

Hear ye! Hear ye! Hear Ye! (1,2)

JUDGE PANEL

Our duty here is done

We thank you for your

patience

And now, we bid you farewell

For this hearing is over!

“No child ever leaves God’s sight …”

“God has his eye on every child of his. The

Holy Spirit will follow your child down every

back road, every dark alley, every dead end

and always remind him of the foundation of

belief you showed him.”

Luke 12:6-7 “6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight. 7 But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
