WORDS AS ART

Some murals artists like DEFER and TAZROC use secret “codenames” for the work they make. They also find fun and inventive ways to write those names – they look more like pictures than words.

Fiind letters in DEFER’s paintings? Can you find words too? How many?

Does looking at the titles of the paintings help you find letters? List

what you find below.

In the box, draw some of the letters, words and shapes you see in DEFER’s paintings.

PORTRAITS & MORE

ASYLM and TAZROC like to paint portraits of people. Sometimes they are famous people, sometimes they are people they know, sometimes they are made up people. They also like to add things like crowns, birds and flags to the pictures of people.

Look at the big pictures of people in the gallery and see if

you can find these things:

The ICU artists make a lot of work that is out in the world - on buildings, on walls and even on buses!

ASYLUM and TAZROC painted murals at The Bridge building here in Charlottesville.. Now you draw a mural on The Bridge building!

SWANK designed a city bus that you’ll see all over Charlottesville

Now you draw what you want to see on a city bus!

Draw where you live and what mural you would want to paint on it.
