What is a spreadsheet?

• A program in grid format of rows and columns, to store and manipulate numbers

• Using formulae means that any changes are automatically updated for the whole spreadsheet. This very powerful feature enables forecasts to be made in seconds!

Why do YOU need to learn spreadsheets?

Moving around a spreadsheet

• Use the arrows on the keyboard

Entering Text AND Widening ColumnsWhen entering BASIC CALCULATIONS in cell A1, it appears like it extends into B1 – THIS IS NOT SO!To correct this you must widen the column:Drag the line between A & B or DOUBLE CLICK left mouse button between A & B

Three ways:

1. =SUM(A3:A8) 2. =SUM( then click on A3 an drag mouse to A8)

3. Using AUTOSUM

REMEMBER TO PRESS ENTER KEY AFTER FORMULA

Replicating Formula

Position mouse in right corner.

Wait for cursor to change to a thin black cross.

Left click and drag from the black square down the rest of the column, then release the mouse.

Add Gridlines and Change Orientation

To change to LANDSCAPE• Choose the PAGE

LAYOUT tab• Choose Orientation and

then Landscape

To add GRIDLINES• Choose the PAGE

LAYOUT tab• Add a tick to Print in the

Gridlines section

• To add a new ROW – right-clickOn a number and choose INSERT.(The new row will appear above).

• To add a new COLUMN – right-clickOn a letter and choose INSERT.(The new column will appear to the left).
