On Tuesday, April 17th over 290 UCA
members came out to Venuti’s Ristorante
& Banquets to kickoff the construction
season at the UCA Spring Showcase.
Besides being a great networking
event for many UCA members, it was a
wonderful opportunity to network and
learn about upcoming work. MWRD,
Lake County DOT & the Illinois Toll-
way were in attendance and gave won-
derful presentations. Also in attendance
were CDOT and the Illinois State Geo-
logical Survey.
The Spring Showcase was also an
opportunity to introduce some of the
UCA Scholarship award winners to the
UCA community.
UCA Staff would like to personally
thank everyone who sponsored, present-
ed, exhibited & attended the Spring
Showcase. Your energetic spirit for the
industry’s future made the night
unforgettable.

The Spring Showcase is a great kickoff to
the construction season every year, and this
year’s event was no different! The Showcase,
held on April 17th at Venuti’s in Addison,
was attended by 290 UCA members. This
was the second year in a row that the Spring
Showcase had been sold out! As always, the
attendance, facility, and food were great and
complimented the very informative educa-
tional session. Those in attendance got to
hear from the Illinois Tollway, MWRD,
Lake County DOT, and the Illinois State Ge-
ological Survey. Thank you to all of the ven-
dors who participated in the Showcase and
the sponsors for their support. I want to issue
a special thanks to UCA’s staff and the
Events Committee for all their hard work in
making the Showcase a success! Lastly,
thanks to those that took the time to attend
this exceptional event.
UCA members, as well as staff, were in
Washington D.C. the week of May 14th,
“Infrastructure Week”, to advocate for in-
vesting in the nations aging infrastructure.
Meetings were held with our national lobby-
ists, the Clean Water Construction Coalition
(CWCC), along with visits to the Illinois
Congressional Delegation on the Hill with
the Transportation for IL Coalition (TFIC).
UCA joined the Value of Water Cam-
paign and senior private sector executives for
a discussion on how companies are driving
innovative water management practices and
navigating the challenges of today's complex
water landscape. This event was hosted in
partnership with
the National Asso-
ciation of Counties
and the National
League of Cities.

Planet Underground was formed when our affiliate, Staking
University—a program offering locator training courses for
professionals to get hands-on experience—was combined with
our magazine, previously named Underground Focus. The
magazine was founded in 1986 with a mission to help excava-
tors and locators understand the opportunities available to
them in their role in preventing jobsite damages.
In 2001, Planet Underground was established to bring new
stories of industry professionals to life on screen. In 2016, our
magazine became American Locator to emphasize the im-
portance of being aware of utility locations in overall damage
prevention. With print, digital and video communications
firmly established and always rooted in education, we contin-
ue to push forward to expand our educational outreach with
industry networking events such as The Roundtable held an-
nually each December, and The Roundtable Live held out-
doors in summer with live excavations and demos on our
company grounds.
Efficiency is paramount in the construction industry, but it
shouldn’t come at the expense of safety. Utility professionals
are pushed harder and harder to move quickly, and excavators
play a crucial role in reducing damages onsite and in our com-
munities. Facilitating discussions and action on damage pre-
vention, both before and after the call to 811—Planet Under-
ground would like to give utility excavation professionals a
forum to have their voices heard while implementing the best
tools and training for safety.
We look forward to the coming year, working together! For
more information on filming, articles or advertising with Plan-
et Underground TV and/or American Locator Magazine, or to

a talented mix of physicians, nurse prac-
titioners and massage therapists. The
Chicago FIX Team has worked with a

that keeps our athletes game-ready on
the field that will now be available to
Chicagoland contractors to keep their
team work-ready in the field.
Our new Mobile Medical Office makes
getting your FIX even more convenient
