Dear Colleagues, Collaborators, Industry and Corporate Partners
It is our sincere pleasure to invite you to support the 11th World Congress for Microcirculation,
which will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, from September 9-13, 2018. This will
be the 11th meeting of the world societies dedicated to the research and study of the growing
field of microcirculation and its related diseases. This also marks the first return of the Congress
to Canada since its inaugural meeting in Toronto in 1975.
The theme of this Congress is microcirculation in health and disease with a focus on emerging
research and technologies. Its objective is to advance research and education and technological
developments in the many areas of the microcirculation. Due to the critical importance of the
microcirculation to general health, the commercial and industrial applications include
development of new drugs and therapies, and treatment of a wide range of human diseases,
including vascular and perivascular disease, diabetes, stroke, dementia, cancer and sepsis. Our
meeting will provide you with great opportunities to sponsor cutting edge research and the
scientists who are driving it, showcase new products and services, and interact with many
researchers, both leading and emerging. Of the growing number of researchers who attend our
meeting (we expect 600+ delegates to register) many will be interested in discovering the
products and services you may have to offer.
In conjunction with the objectives of the Congress to advance research and education in the areas
of the microcirculation, the Congress provides an opportunity for the related technology and
medical industries to network and present new products, hardware and software relevant to their
market. Opportunities to support the 11th World Congress for Microcirculation include sponsoring
a portion of the conference with extended exposure to the 600+ delegates from around the
world, advertising in our conference program, or being an exhibitor with the opportunity to
display and promote your product and services.
The 11th World Congress for Microcirculation will be held at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre,
a beautiful venue with state of the art support for exhibitors and delegates alike, located in the
heart of downtown Vancouver. Your presence at our meeting is a wonderful demonstration of
your support of the growing field of microcirculation and the advancement of scientific research,
education and technologies.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Sussan Nourshargh Sussan Nourshargh is a pharmacologist who became Professor of Immunopharmacology at Imperial College London in 2006. In 2007 she joined Queen Mary University of London where she established a new Centre focusing on Microvascular Research within the William Harvey Research Institute. The principal objective of Dr. Nourshargh's research is to investigate the mode, dynamics and mechanisms of leukocyte transmigration,
the final stage in the leukocyte adhesion cascade, which describes the movement of leukocytes from the vascular lumen into inflamed and/or injured tissues. To achieve this goal, her lab employs a multi-disciplinary approach to investigate the associated molecular and cellular pathways involved in neutrophil-vessel wall interactions. A key component of her work investigates how pathological inflammatory insults impact the dynamics of neutrophil-vessel wall interactions and the implications of disrupted modes of neutrophil transmigration (e.g. neutrophil reverse transendothelial cell migration) on inflammatory disease development and dissemination. Collectively through the application of molecular and cellular assays, and advanced imaging platforms, Dr. Nourshargh's work aims to unravel previously unexplored cellular and molecular physiological concepts and identify disease-specific phenomena in immunity, inflammation and vascular biology.
Awards • The Gabor Kaley Prize in Microcirculation Research from the American Societies of Physiology and Microcirculation. • The Astra Zeneca Prize for Women in Pharmacology from the British Pharmacology Society.
• Quintiles Prize for outstanding contribution to Immunopharmacology from the British Pharmacology Society.
David Kleinfeld David Kleinfeld is a Distinguished Professor of Physics and of Neurobiology (courtesy) at the University of California San Diego. He trained in experimental physics and has focused his research efforts on network and computational issues within nervous systems using a wide range of experimental and analytical approaches, including the design of new instruments. One focus of Dr Kleinfeid’s research is on the angioarchitecture of the rodent brain and the underlying flow of blood. These studies identified the relation of vascular topology
and geometry to the nature of flow. Of medical relevance, Dr. Kleinfeld found that blockage of even a single penetrating vessel, i.e., a vessel that shuttles blood from the surface network to the subsurface microvascular network, leads to a microstroke that appears similar to those seen in vascular dementia. Of biophysical relevance, Dr. Kleinfeld completed the first vectorized map of all vessels within vibrissa cortex and used it to gain insight into the nature of flow patterns and the perturbation of natural patterns by neuronal activity and vascular occlusions. Ongoing work addresses the coupling of neuronal activity and vasodynamics.

THE WORLD CONGRESS FOR MICROCIRCULATION
The World Congress for Microcirculation is the world’s largest conference in the area of microcirculation, bringing
together researchers, scientists, industry and corporate leaders, and trainees from the growing field of
microcirculation. This gathering serves as an important and unique event for the discussion and exchange of
cutting edge knowledge, insights, issues and ideas.
The Congress is organized and held on a rotating 3 to 5 year basis in a unique location corresponding to a regional
Microcirculation society. Since 1975, the meeting has attracted on average 600 delegates from regional
Microcirculation Societies from around the world including Japan, China, Australia and New Zealand, North
America, Britain, and the European Union (a full list of regional Microcirculation Societies can be found on page 4
of this document).
The 11th World Congress for Microcirculation (WCM2018) will be held in Vancouver, BC, Canada from September
9-13, 2018. This marks the first return of the Congress to Canada since its inaugural meeting in Toronto in 1975.
Most recently, the WCM was held in Kyoto, Japan in 2015 and previously the meeting was held in Paris, France in
2010.
CONGRESS OBJECTIVES
The theme of the Congress is microcirculation in health and disease with a focus on emerging research and
technologies. Its objective is to advance research and education in the many areas of microcirculation. With
strong representation from the international Scientific Advisory Committee, with representatives from the UK,
Europe, the Americas, Australia/New Zealand and Asia, the Local Organizing Committee has developed an
exciting meeting which reflects the growing research areas of microcirculation and the pivotal role these fields
play in translational applications. Congress symposia will include inflammation, permeability, vascular control and
angiogenesis to name a few.
The microcirculation is required for all vital and non-vital organs as part of a healthy body. It supplies oxygen and
nutrients and is integral to the removal of metabolic waste. Due to its critical importance to general health, the
commercial and industrial applications include development of new drugs and therapies, and treatment of a wide
range of human diseases, including vascular and perivascular disease, diabetes, stroke, dementia, cancer and
sepsis.
In conjunction with the objectives to advance research and education in the areas of microcirculation, the
Congress provides an opportunity for related technology and medical industries to network, present new
hardware and software relevant to their market, and connect with researchers from around the world.

WHO IS ORGANIZING THE WCM?
The 11th World Congress for Microcirculation is being organized under the leadership of Dr Donald Welsh
(University of Western Ontario) and a strong local organizing committee (LOC) of thirteen research scientists.
Nearly sixty scientists comprise the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) who will assist with programming
decisions. General guidance for the event is provided by the International Liaison Committee for Microcirculation.
Overall conference management has been contracted to A111 Power of Conference Service in Vancouver, BC.
See page 3 for LOC and SAC details.
WHO ATTENDS THE WCM?
The conference draws research scientists, investigators in basic and applied research, clinicians, post-doctoral
fellows and graduate students actively engaged in the growing field of microcirculation. Although the majority of
delegates will be from North America, due to the location, there will be very strong representation from Europe,
the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Asian countries including Japan, China and India. A list of participating
societies from around the world can be found on page 4.
SPONSORSHIP OF THE CONGRESS
We are very pleased to invite you to become a partner of the 11th World Congress for Microcirculation taking

As of April 27, 2018 full payment is due upon signature. Applications received without the applicable payment will not be considered complete and will not be processed. Cancellation by Exhibitor: All notices of cancellation must be received in writing by July 1, 2018. There will be an administration charge of 25% of the exhibit fee for all cancellations. Cancellation by Organizer: If Exhibitor fails to make a payment required by this contract in a timely manner, the Organizer may terminate this contract (and the Exhibitor’s participation in the event) without further notice and without obligation to refund any monies previously paid. The Organizer reserves the right to refuse Exhibitor permission to move in and set up an exhibit if Exhibitor is in arrears of any payment due to Organizer. The Organizer may also terminate this contract effective upon written notice of termination if Exhibitor breaches any of its obligations under this contract or any other contract or arrangement with the Organizer, without any obligation on the Organizer’s part to refund any payments previously made and without releasing any Exhibitor from any liability arising as result of or relating to such breach. If the Organizer removes or restricts an exhibit it considers to be objectionable or inappropriate, no refund will be due to the Exhibitor.
Cancellation of the Event: If the premises where the Event is to be held shall, in the sole opinion of the Organizer, become unfit or unavailable for occupancy, or shall be substantially interfered with, by reason of picketing, strike, embargo, injunction, act of war, act of God, fire or provincial or federal government agency or by reason of any other occurrence beyond the control of the Organizer, the Organizer may cancel or terminate the exhibition. No person, firm, or organization not having contracted with the Organizer for the occupancy of space at the exhibit will be permitted to display or demonstrate their products, processes or services, nor may this agreement be transferred or assigned without written consent of the Organizer.
Assignment of Space: Exhibit space shall be assigned by the Organizer in its sole discretion for the Event and for the Event dates only. That assignment does not imply that similar space will be assigned for future Events. The Organizer reserves the right to change the floor plan or to move an Exhibitor to another booth location prior to or during the Event for any or no reason.
No show policy: If the Exhibitor is delayed in arrival or set-up, the Exhibitor must notify the Organizer at the Event facility. Non-notification may result in resale of space, and no refunds will be made.
Floor plan: All measurements shown on the floor plan have been drawn as accurately as possible but the Organizer reserves the right to make such modifications as may be needed, making equitable adjustments with the exhibitors affected thereby.
Display Rules and Regulations: For all booth types, the exhibit booth is contained in the space as contracted, to the maximum heights stated. No display material exposing an unfinished surface to nearby booths will be permitted. Displays must be contained within the assigned booth spaces in such a way that they do not interfere with other exhibitors’ displays. Canvassing or distributing advertising material outside of the assigned booth space is not permitted and is grounds for removal from the exhibit hall, and the company may be excluded from future events hosted by the Organizer. The Organizer reserves the right to restrict, prohibit or remove any exhibit or display items which, in the sole opinion of the Organizer, may detract from the general character of the exhibition or be considered objectionable to the Organizer or supporting organizations, facilities and stakeholders.
