ForewordCongratulationsonthepurchaseofyournewSpeedSentryspeedmanagementdevice!YouarenowtheproudowneranduserofproudlySouthAfricantechnologythataimstomakeourestatesandroadssaferplacestobe.

IntroductionSpeedSentryproductsaremanufacturedintwodifferentdetectiontechnologies,namelyRadarandLaser.Laserisusedforthestandalonecameraunits,particularlywheretherearemultiplelanesthatneedtobecontrolledonaroadway.Ourdisplayunitsareallradarpowered,andthistechnologyhasdifferentsetuprequirementstothelaserpoweredunits.

InfrarednightvisionWiththeexceptionoftheMiniunits,allSpeedSentryunitsarefittedwithinfraredilluminatorsthatenablevideotobetakenatnight.Duetotheconstraintsofthetechnology,thesepictureswillgenerallyshowtheheadlightsandthenumberplatesofthevehicle.

PleasenotethatthecaptureofthenumberplateatnightisdependentonthevehiclebeingfittedwithalegallycompliantSouthAfricanorNeighbouringStatenumberplate.Ifthenumberplateisdefacedinanyway,thereflectivesurfacemaybedamagedandthiswilladverselyaffectthequalityoftheimage.Incaseofanewvehicleoravehiclewherethenumberplateismissing,noimagewillbecaptured.

SetupofyourSpeedSentrydevice.TheSpeedSentrydevicesarefittedwithhighresolutionshortrangeInfraRedcameras.Optimalimagesarecapturedwithin20moftheunit,particularlyatnight,anditisimportantthattheunitsarecorrectlysetuptoavoidproblemswithvideoqualityandfalsereadings.

LaserUnitsLaserunitsfunctionasaresultofaverynarrowbeamoflaserenergythatisfocussedalongtheroad.Thisbeamisnomorethan30cmwideat50manditisimportantthattheunitbecorrectlyalignedtogetoptimalresults:

Step1Fastentheunittothededicatedpoleorstreetlightasindicated.Notthattheoptimumdistanceislessthan2mhighandlessthan2mfromtheedgeoftheroad,althoughtheunitwillfunctionfurtheraway/higherthanthis.

Step2UsethepreviewfunctionundertheServicemenu(Seeattachedsoftwareguide)toaligntheunittotheoptimumpositionforthelasertopickuponcomingvehicles.Thecameraismosteffectiveatdistancesbetween10and20m,especiallyatnight,soitisimportanttogetthesetupcorrect:
