encounter and the Zen tradition; the hesychastictradition and Buddhist meditation; Mindfulness andBuddhist-Christianencounter;meditationandactioninBuddhist-Christianencounter.ENBCSconferencesareanopportunitytomeetandtogreetothers.Conversationisimportant–duringcoffeebreaksandmeals(lunchhasbeenextendedtoincludeasiesta–we’reinSpainafterall),andintheeveningsafterformalsessions.Soalsoisspiritualpractice-wehaveanoptionalguidedmeditationsessioneachmorningbeforebreakfast.Then,thecultureoftheplaceisalsosigni�i-cant.Montserratismountain,sanctuaryandmonastery.‘Montserrat’means‘sawnmountain’inCatalanandthemountainlooks,fromadistance,almostasthoughithasbeencarved.Belovedofrockclimbersandwalkers,itisfull of interest. thmountainasearlyas the8 Centurybut itwas in themiddleagesthatMontserratbecameafamousplaceofpilgrimagebecauseofthemiraclesthathappenedthere,attributedtoMary. Sarah Shaw (University of Oxford) has her doctorate inEnglishLiterature.AfterstudyingPaliandSanskritatOxford,shenowwritesandlecturesonBuddhistsubjects. AasulvLande(LundUniversity)hasparticularlyworkedwith religious dimensions of East West encounter. In thatcapacityhehasservedatEasternandWesternUniversities(Japan, China, Scandinavia and England). He served for aperiodasPresidentoftheENBCS. UrsulaBaatz(Vienna,ReligiousStudiesScholar)hasbeeninvolved in the practice and theory of Christian - Zen-Buddhist-Dialogueformanyyears.
