Background of the Study

Water-logging is one of the major environmental problems in

the south-western part of Bangladesh

Riverbed siltation along with back water effect due to sea-level

rise and high tide is leading to prolonged water-logging in this

area

Aquaculture also play an important role

Cause & Effect cycle

4

Sequential visualization of water logged area using Landsat Imagery

5

Methodology

To carry out this change detection, Landsat imageries from

1973, 1989, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010 and 2015 were used

Training datasets were generated in ArcGIS environment to

classify the satellite imagery

Supervised classification was done using Random Forest

Algorithm

A post classification comparison or change detection was

followed to calculate transformation of waterlogged area

The study demonstrated that waterlogged area increased by63% (1989), 80% (1995), 247% (2000), 360% (2005), 427%

(2010) and 276% (2015) compared to baseline (1973)
